I recently bought the FIDECO Hard Drive Enclosure, and it has been a game-changer for my HDD. This docking station is incredibly easy to set up—just plug and play with no complicated installations. Great enclosure actually and at a really good price! Works perfectly fine so far, it has a nice design for the fan connector and a really nice snug fit for a 3.5 inch HDD with soft pads around the drive. The thing that really sets this enclosure apart though is the cooling. Having a fan is a huge advantage and in my case, it was essential. I tried a fanless enclosure from another brand before buying this one and my Toshiba N300 was stable at 57 degrees under sustained writing load (3 degrees below the upper operational temperature!) and it reached 58 degrees according to the S.M.A.R.T. report. The write speed was halved, I suspect because of heavy throttling due to high temperature. Not to mention the impact this would have on the drive longevity in the long term. With this enclosure the temperature was stable at a comfortable 37-38 degrees under load. There's no downside to buying this enclosure my view, it was cheaper than the fanless enclosure from another brand I had, it has adequate cooling and you can switch off the fan if you feel you don't need it.

Used to connect a Seagate 5.25" hard drive to a Mac. Very easy to install the drive (no tools required). The cooling fan is a nice addition, especially if the drive runs for extended periods.

I’m really impressed with this enclosure. Although it’s made of plastic, it feels solid and sturdy - not the flimsy kind, which is a relief. I upgraded my gaming PC some time ago by putting in a 2TB M.2 drive to replace the HDD. Rather than letting the old drive sit unused in my machine, I decided to repurpose it as a secondary backup drive. This enclosure made the transition effortless, as it works seamlessly right out of the box with its plug-and-play functionality. One of the main reasons I chose this particular enclosure was the integrated fan on top of the caddy. It’s a fantastic feature for keeping the drive cool, especially during extended data transfers. While the plastic construction doesn’t offer much in the way of heat dissipation, the fan compensates nicely. Ideally, it would have been great to see some aluminum incorporated into the design to help dissipate heat more efficiently. However, given the affordable price point, it’s a trade-off I can overlook. I simply keep the fan running at full speed whenever I’m using the drive, and it handles the temperature well. If I had to nitpick, one thing I would have appreciated is the option to secure the drive to the enclosure with screws. While the drive doesn’t feel loose or like it might fall out, having the ability to fasten it down would provide an extra level of security. The same goes for the enclosure’s lid with the fan—it simply slides into place, which works fine but could feel more robust with a locking mechanism. All in all, I highly recommend this enclosure. It’s affordable, reliable, and performs flawlessly without any speed degradation. For anyone looking for a practical solution to repurpose an old hard drive or add a backup drive to their setup, this is a great option! :)

Good price for an enclosure, don't drop it as it will not survive, simple to use, simply slip in your HD, i put an 2TB 3.5 H/D (also from amazon) a while ago, simply transfer files, or like me plug it into your router if you have a USB port for a cheap NAS, wI went for the higher TB rating as you never know when you have a higher TB drive knocking around, recommend formatting the drive before use or if you have used the hd in the past to store files then no need to reformat, just use it,

This worked perfectly for my 2.5 and 3.5 Sata drives I had sitting around for a few years. I had removed them from a desktop pc several years back and needed the information from the drives. No issues using it, comes with everything you need, just plug and play and backup the data to a laptop.

Nicely made, although entirely plastic, and does the job. However, the fan design is a real disappointment because, although the fan itself is of decent quality, the clearances within the case for drives above 4TB just aren't enough to allow an adequate air-flow - the case just needs to be 3-5mm greater in height and so it's such a shame that the designers didn't foresee this issue.

Just got this today and I have to say I'm really impressed with how easy it is to set up and how the fan is so effective. I'm currently backing up over 1TB, temps are 4C above idle and transfer speed is constant.

Heeft de beloofde snelheid, kan grote capaciteiten aan en de fan werkt. Het is niet gemaakt om constant de hdd/ssd te vervangen, het mechanisme is een beetje stroef. Prima product.

Boitier pour Hdd et SSD très bien. Sert aux sauvegardes ou transferts, reconnaissance instantanée avec un HDD de 8 To sous Linux Mint, et sauvegarde de ma tour par RSYNC et FreeFileSync sans aucun problème. Le ventilateur très silencieux est très efficace et garde le boîtier à température tiède (au bout de huit heures !). Je conseille très vivement de coller par-dessous des pavés-patins de 8 mm d'épaisseur pour sur-élever le fond du boîtier et dégager les fentes d'aération qui seraient sinon quasi obstruées. Pour le transporter sans casse, il vaut mieux qu'il soit vide de tout HDD.Très satisfait !

After purchasing the Tablo TV, my reseach into the recommeded external HDD with USB connection, I was dpressed to read of some real horror stories among a few postive experineces. So, I purchased this particular item for 2 reasons: 1. To avoid the reported frustrations of hit and miss and inconsistant quality of the portable, USB external HDD's , even among Tablo TV users. Therefore . . . 2. I wanted the far more reliable SATA HDD which would, by consequence, allow me to use an HDD designed for VIDEO, which have higher reliabilty spefically for multiple streams of video simultaneous recordings of multilple TV channels and playback of DVR's video feeding multiple viewers, and of course this idelly should be docked, but the problem of (and others have reported this) HEAT because these HDD's would be in user fairly frequently and powered continuously, not just used for back up or ocassinal data use. which brings us to . . . 3. I needed a dock or or case that would have a FAN, and I needed to be of sufficient power to truly cool the always on HDD, but the fans on most of the docks/cases have pitiful fans that are cleraly designed for occaional short period use. This item has a button dedicated to the fan being ON or OFF. In my case, using the HDD for DVR use (which includes Live TV DVR functions such as skip back, pause, skip forward, etc. so the HDD is in constant use just watching Live TV) I set the switch/button to the ON position permanently. I've had this unit for nearly a year and it has not hiccupped even once, and it moves the heat out very well and I experience no problems related to the HDD being in this case with fan always on. The low price and good quailyt of this item makes and easy replacement when the time comes, so I am OK if does not last 5 years, as I think it was desinged for temporary use situations, but it sure does well, and quietly so, active 24/7. So, if you have a Tablo TV and need a superior and maybe even LESS expensive alternative to the flaky USB external HDD's, this dock/case is perfect for a Tablo TV. All the necessary cables to connect this unit to the Tablo are included. I think the length of cable included is about 3-4 feet between Tablo TV unit and this device, so if have a greater distance between the Tablo TV and this unit, you should purchase a longer cable seperately. Also, keep in mind that this devoce comes with a power cord as well, so you need access to an electrical outlet in your planning. Again, if you are a Tablo TV user or have a similare situation, I highly recommed this device. I lvoe it. This items fits the bill with a very nice enclosed appearance, but a large and capable (proper?) fan that really moves the heat OUT of the enclosure (you can feel the air moving out). Also, the blue light on top is very small so as not to distract, but brigh enough and easy to see when the HDD is busy working or not, which allows you to know if it is good time to reboot the Tablo TV if you need to due to a rare occurance--but I've had no need to reboot the Tablo TV on more that one or two ocassions and tha twas trying to figure out if the problem was my networkd or the Tablo TV. Further, this item looks very nice and can be left out on, say, the surface of an entertainment center or on the top leval a TV stand (as I have it) in plain sight of visitors, and it looks like it belongs not like some Jerry-rigged solution to having a SATA HDD connected EXTERNALLY to a DVR device like the Tablo TV. Insertion of HDD is fast and painless, although you will have to move the HDD into the connection with confidence and force for a proper connection and fit. Just make sure you have the HDD aligned properly. However, the real prize with this itme is the robust FAN that really
