Beautifully written and illustrated.
A pleasant and touching story of life and traditions from generations ago. A bit of sadness to read how poorly the human race has done by not being kind and treating everyone as fellow human beings, with dignity, compassion and the knowledge that we are all the same before our Creator's eyes.

Gullah Basket Weaving and Tradition
This book explains the importance of tradition and takes you through a grandmother showing her granddaughter how to weave a traditional gullah basket. She interweaves Gullah history into the fabric of the story as she shows her granddaughter not only how to weave a basket, but also the importance of tradition and culture. I bought this for my son to take to school with a Gullah basket we purchased on Edisto Island, SC. He was able to meet and speak to the woman who made this basket the same way her ancestors had been weaving baskets for hundreds of years. This story went along with what she expressed to him. Great story with history interwoven throughout the book. I plan to order another one as his teacher wanted to keep the book for her classroom.

EXCELLENT STORY AND PRESENTATION of AFRICAN AMERICANA!
Love this book! So well written. Simple easy to share with children, and such a great part of American History!!!! I am a retired professor of African American Traditions, who is very familiar with this part of Americana. Glad to find this little classic to share with children, even adults. Two thumbs up. I know it's an older title, but for my money, a keeper in the library! <3

and these wonderful baskets are very prevalent there - especially in Savannah
We recently traveled to the South, and these wonderful baskets are very prevalent there - especially in Savannah. (We bought several.) This book tells the heart-warming story about those incredible baskets! Love the baskets AND the book!!

Love it!
I live near the land of Charleston baskets and have collected them for years. I am so happy to have this book about the history of this art form. Highway 17 north of Charleston SC is lined with lovely people who have had the tradition of basket sewing passed down through their families for generations. A lovely and educational book about an exclusive art form for all ages.

Thought this was an adult book. It's for children. My mistake. Was sent on time.
