I needed the introduction of culture and history of the country so I don’t walk in there like a complete idiot. I especially like that the explanation of cultural differences within the territories of Costa Rica. Well done.

This is an ok book on Costa Rica, but it mainly tells about different holidays. I'm looking for a book on the history of Costa Rica.

This is a book for those who have either a need or a desire for only a cursory look at Costa Rica. It is for the traveler who has more of an interest in seeing the country's sights than learning about its history and culture in depth. In that regard, it is probably more useful to the average reader than more exhaustive works. It picks out customs of the people that are interesting. One is that many Costa Ricans do not fully stop at stop signs on the road if they do not think another driver is approaching an intersection. The book's "key facts" section lays out notable aspects of Costa Rica's geography, terrain, and climate. Other sections review the major cities of each of the country's regions. The chapters named "Time Out" and "Traveling" will be especially helpful for nearly every tourist.

No one book can capture a country. This has excellent history that lends a great understanding of the social fabric and political ideology of Costa Rica. Quick read. Not up to present day though. Could have used a bit more about recommendations regarding where to go, how to interact with Costa Ricans.

As a Costa Rican, this book is simple but very useful. I got it to study how other Cultures (Mostly the US) see Costa Rica, and there is a lot of rich information in this book even for the non-tourist.

Great overview of Costa Rican history and culture. My husband and I both read this book in preparation for our upcoming trip to C.R. and felt it gave us a well rounded overview of the country and it's people.

A must-read for anyone with a wandering heart, heading to the most beautiful place on the planet.

The worst guide I have ever read. A lot of empty words, banal frases, not much useful information. It is obvious that the author didn't spend time to make a bit of research and provide more valuable info. He writes ''there is nightlife in Costa Rica. Mostly in the bars and in the clubs''. Really??? And all book is like this :) I do not recommend.
