Children's Missal: An Easy Way of Participating at Mass for Boys and Girls

Good value for a hard to find booklet.

We are a family of new Catholics. So far, I have ordered these books for myself and my 7 year old daughter, and I am going to get more for my husband and adult son. The book is small (easy fits in the palm of the hand) and is very complete and thorough. The exterior is neutral and low key, and even though it says it is for children on the cover, it doesn't LOOK like a child's guide book. Out of the many missals and mass books I have looked over since converting, this is by far the easiest to follow and most complete. There are a few instructional type pages, and the mass is clearly laid out with explanations. Our mass doesn't EXACTLY match up with everything, but it is close enough that I can follow along pretty easily, and the more experience I have, the easier it gets. In the back there are useful prayers, information on the Rosary, and more. There are full color photographs (not cartoons) that show some of the actions taking place. It tells you when to kneel, sit, or stand. Also, gives some explanations , like fine print, for some of the things going on that a newbie might miss. It is also such a good price. It is very, very helpful. There is also a nice name plate in the front for the owner of the book. 100% recommend.

This is lovely and has all the updated phrases (e.g. "...and with your spirit")We got this for our 2nd grade daughter a few months before her first Communion. Despite having been an active listener in mass for years, it helped her really understand the parts and flow of the mass and the celebration. In conjunction with her first communion classes, it has really piqued her interest in all parts of the mass. She now keeps the songbook, this missal, the book with the readings in it, and the hand-out with song listings all at hand during mass and loves marking her spot and moving to the other resource and then back. Which brings me to the one negative: I so wish this book had a ribbon marker! When she sets it down to sing a song or follow the actual readings, she loses her page. I took a 6-7" piece of 1/4" wide ribbon, put a little glue on about 1/2" of one end, opened the book WIDE open and slid it down the inside of the spine, with the glue facing the cover, not the pages. It's held well for the last few weeks so far. Overall, the book is comprehensive and yet general enough to be useful all year round. The front few pages are definitions/names of objects in a church (altar, etc) and then the majority is the flow of the mass with main parts verbatim or summarized. The back 1/4 or so has other prayers not typically said in the regular flow of mass.As a bonus, our church is St Joseph so this seemed perfect!

I got this for my son’s First Communion. We have been following along to Mass with a paperback book. I wanted to upgrade him to a nice book. I remember receiving a hardback Mass book for my Communion too. I added a blue ribbon to the book binding (as someone else recommended). My son was excited for this gift and we have found it helpful with Mass. He likes that it tells him when to stand, sit, and kneel and it explains the parts of Mass.A couple people commented on the big white sticker. It is on the back of the book and was easily removable. It didn’t leave any residue.

I order these every year to give to all the kids making 1st Communion. I see kids bringing them every week to Mass

This book is the perfect size for a young person to put in their pocket to take to Mass. We gave it to our friend's daughter for her 1st Communion last month. I was so happy last week to see she had it at Mass and followed along with the book and prayers.

I bought this for my 7 year old daughter to follow along during Mass. She loves it. Now she has her own missal and she is delighted. This edition walks the reader through the entire Mass with helpful pictures and all of the responses. Beautiful little hardcover book that is surviving the use of a young child that is hard on her things to say the least. I cannot recommend this book enough. It helps keep my daughter focused and interested during church. Would make a terrific gift for a child and I’ve recommended it to at least one adult that is interested in the faith to make mass less intimidating for someone that may want to consider converting. Absolutely can’t go wrong.
