The Bank Investor's Handbook

Don’t be fooled by the length and easy-to-read style. This book is packed with practical insights that can be turned into profit. Chapter 13 alone is worth the price of the book. I’m a veteran investor in financial stocks, and I picked up many insights from this book I didn't know beforehand, including: • When should management be believed, and when should you ignore what they say? • What profit generating macro trend in should be considered before the purchase of any banking stock? • What is the first and most important area to look at when analyzing a bank? • Where can you find up-to-date information for any bank? • What are the two catalysts that indicate a likelihood of short-term gains? Novice or veterans will profit from this book. It begins with a clear explanation of basic fundamentals, adds investment considerations, and a ties up with a summary that will deliver high returns to anyone who closely follows the straightforward framework.

Simpler than other texts, but this is both the strength and weakness of the book. A lot of concepts are boiled down to their most simple, which enhances initial learning but leaves little insight for the more experienced. Overall I'd prefer the book having been named "The Introduction to Bank Investing". On the fence between 3/5 or 4/5. Good: The book is well-written, usually correct, and introduces all the most important concepts to readers. Bad: Nothing truly exceptional that couldn't be found through your own research. Unlike some bank investing primers, there are few practical examples of analyzing and valuing a bank. I would have liked to learn about the author's own successes and failures when investing in banks.

The book does a solid job of explaining the business behind banking, and a bit about how to look at bank stocks. a bit more content on how to pick apart or model banks would be good, but then again this is as advertised, i.e. a 'handbook'. Overall, a solid bit of background for framing how to look at bank stocks.

This is a very good book on investing in banks. It's easy and quick to read, as it does not belabor the point. I found the book quite entertaining on what might be a dry subject. There are very good insights into what are the most important metrics to understand. Part of the difficulty I always found with investing in banks is just understanding the "lingo" - that mystery is gone after reading this book. I highly recommend this fine handbook.

This book breaks down the basics of banking and bank investing. I’m glad I purchased it. I would recommend it if you are interested in it.

The Bank Investor's Handbook was a great read! As someone who didn't know a lot about banks before reading this book, I feel like I now have a solid understanding of the topic. The authors do a great job of presenting simple examples in order to ensure you understand a topic and then expand into more complex content. Additionally, if you're someone who is interested in banks or investing, you'll find this a genuinely enjoyable read. I personally read it in a day!

I've been a professional investor for 15 years and recently began following the author on Twitter, where I saw him promote The Bank Investor's Handbook. This book is great for both a novice and an avid investor who doesn't focus on the bank space. It's well-written and fills a void for non-technical investing books about banks. Very nicely done.

It has a few paragraphs of high value at the high level, giving basic line items on the financial statement to understand. Not detailed on specific ratios that would be industry standards. Lots of spelling and grammar errors.

After reading books on Warren Buffett investing, I was able to make up a spread sheet for analysing investments. The investing technique did not work on financial corporations, so I was looking for a book on banks that I could get formulas and recommended ratios that I could then make a spread sheet to analyse Income, balance sheet and cash flows. This book explains how a bank works and explains the financial statements. It promises that at the end it will all come together and you will be able to find good banks to invest in. In the end I found it fell short of what I was looking for. No formulas, no ratios, nothing to work with to make up a workable investment tool. Otherwise it was informative.

Not at all familiar with banks but wanted to get into it. My background is Phil Town’s school of investing, his books and courses, the Rule#1 framework. This book is a perfect fit for that investment philosophy as it follows the same mindset. Well written, to the point, dry humor here and there. Recommend it for people with no banking background, delivers only relevant information and is instantly applicable to use in one’s own research.

This book is a must have specially for those who either needs to better understand the bank as a business or as an investment. It works in both perspectives. If you do have trainees, interns or newcomers in your bank institution you should recommend the Bank Investors Handbook.

Provides the method to evaluate a bank in a structured yet simple way. However, do not agree with their investment philosophy.
