This Color analyzer saved me lots of $$$$ when I had to fight my HOA about paint color for the outside of my house. I was able to analyze all neighborhood colors that didn't seem to match the allowable color scheme. After submitting my data provided by Nix the HOA board had to revisit my color submissions or face legal action.

Great device, very useful, works great

I'm cautiously optimistic for this unit. Pro colorimeters are thousands of dollars, but this one just might be the ticket. I'm a graphics guy by trade, so I need to color match past projects often, especially when switching equipment or programs. The unit seems fairly accurate, at least enough to get me in the ballpark with CMYK and cRGB where I can fine tune my files from there. What I don't like is it doesn't like to remember what I had the presets saved to (CMYK/cRGB) and it defaults to a measurement unit that is useless to me. Happens every time I start it up (which, by the way, can take some doing - the app doesn't always find the reader, so I wind up restarting my phone). Still testing it's limits, but I have hopes. It does work better on matte surfaces than gloss, so keep that in mind.

So far the battery life has out done the previous portable spectro we had(Spectro 1 by Variable). The readings have been consistent and make sense in the context of what is being scanned, as well as re-reads of previous runs/masters being run. I.E. We run a color again a month later and these readings haven't drifted from the readings from a month ago. The visual charts used in the app to show color space help with seeing the differences in color in addition to the LAB numeric differences.

The scanner works great, but the app that you have to use is an absolute nightmare. If you want to match a color, you have to take a dedicated scan every time. You can save scans, but you can't use those to match a color; you have to scan it again. While searching for a match, which you have to do one brand at a time (licensing issue? No, it doesn't just give you the closest match out of all the brands and no, you can't select a few brands. to match all at one; only one brand at a time) if you hit the back button instead of the "switch brand" button...you guessed it: you have to scan it again. This means that you have to find the best match then and there. You can't scan a bunch and find the best match later. Absolute terrible app design. Even the language the app uses for the libraries (that you can create) is misleading.

I love this product! It’s small, accurate and easy to use, and instantly gives me the exact Sherwin Williams (or other manufacturers) color.

Nix is one of the leading companies that provides color matching tools for professionals. I have never used a spectrophotometer before, but I needed a device that will allow me to match all of the different colors of paint that are used in my home. I want to touch up several areas without repainting the entire walls or rooms, so the only way to do this is to be able to match my existing colors perfectly. This Nix Spectro L is definitely overkill for how I intend to use it. It has many more features and capabilities than I will take advantage of in the near future, but I hope over time I will find other ways to use this sophisticated tool. I will add more to this review after I have used it for a few months and I am more familiar with its capabilities.

I was going to give this 3 stars because of the terrible app but the device itself is so accurate and consistent, I can't. Word of warning, if you are going to use this to scan multiple patches in batch, it's a nightmare with the app. The only way to scan a collection of colors is to create a collection and the problem is, it forces you to type a color name and a color code for every single patch. Manually. There's no way to just have it auto-name if you want to just scan patches and number them. There's a Pro app that looks like it could do that but that's $99/mo which is really shady!

We are using it every day in our paint shop to ensure our custom colours are spot on. QC are made effortless and intuitive. Also makes it easy to scan samples and reference it to a major paint brand. We will highly recommend any of Nix products!

Outstanding little piece of tech. I have played with a very basic 3 color sensor with my microcontrollers, they sorta work, but accuracy is not great. The NIX really is on a whole new level in terms of tech and app support. The sensor itself uses 9 channels which gives a far more accurate and repeatable sample. It's super compact and easy to use with barely a quarter's worth of surface area required to sample from. You could absolutely bring it with you to site or out and about and sample to your heart's content. Battery life has been great, there are no buttons just connect to the app and go. I love that its USB charging with its own battery for less hassle. And when not in use its easy to store away. The absolute star of the show is the app support, calibration and huge library of paints, color standards, etc.. that NIX pulled together. I was amazed at how well it did picking up (nearly flawlessly) all the paint samples i had. About the only issue was when i had some that were not in its collection, but it did the best it could to find its nearest neighbor in the same line. It was impressive how accurate and repeatable it was in identifying the color and it's companion. Absolutely critical to anyone doing professional work. A calibration chip is provided as well along with a QR code to both calibrate the device and provide feedback to the company. It's reassuring to know your device is operating as intended. The area ton of other settings i am just not experienced enough to toggle that i am certain experienced professionals would appreciate. The app is also very customizable, you can select from many subsets of color representations for whatever format you work with. I will say the only real disadvantage is reliance on a phone screen as your control once scanned, it is hard to judge if the scan is accurate based on a screen you have no idea how it was ever calibrated. Perhaps less of an issue with more upscale phones, but certainly a consideration that i am sure professionals are aware of. Scanning a known color to its known online reference sample produces excellent results so i am confident it is accurate on other spot samples. In terms of the sensor itself, it's compact, very quick to both setup and connect with, samples are very fast, and accuracy and repeatability seem excellent. For our purposes in decorating a new home i am excited to match colors and coordinate.

I'm perhaps a bit of an edge case when it comes to those who'd get the most out of something like this, being a web designer, who also creates logo's etc. but a surprising amount of what I do does come down to getting my colours absolutely correct. This gadget is something that I'll probably only use when initially creating artwork, to ensure that colours are accurate and consistent, but it's already been worth the price it's sold for, just being able to do such things with ease. The number of times a client will pass me a piece of artwork that has been created elsewhere and wants it included on the website, is more often than you'd think. Now, instead of having to jump through hoops trying to find the original source and ask them what colours they used, I can quickly and accurately sample them myself. The device is really easy to use. There is literally no button on the actual device itself. The device wakes on connection with your phone, when it's running the Nix Toolkit software (which is free to use with CMYK, HEX and CIELAB colour standards, with others being available to use with a subscription) As I only need CMYK and HEX colours, this means that I don't have to subscribe to anything, which is fine by me. Subscription costs vary, but Pantone for example works out to around £10 a month - which I don't find too outrageous at all. The device is incredibly well made. It's really nicely weighted, it's around the size of an apricot, but is heavier than it's size suggests. The scanning time is very quick, I'd say a second or two maximum which is next to no time when you consider what it's doing. You can them save the colour information and recall when you need it. You do this by hitting a disk icon on the colour swatch that is presented after a successful scan, then assigning a library and collection. While this isn't cheap as far as gadgets go, it's uses in even my limited field are many. Being able to sample colours easily and quickly is very handy indeed. I'll be using this as part of my 'client visit' kit going forward and I know that whenever I pull this out to sample a colour, the client will be super-intrigued and impressed - as I was when I first started playing with it. I'd be happy to recommend this to anyone that works with colours and needs accuracy, speed and ease of use!

This is a very smart bit of kit and it looks like something from outer space! I ordered the Nix Spectro L to test as I work in interior design, and I've found it to be excellent for matching and coordinating paints and fabrics. The sensor sits inside a robust, diamond-shaped metal casing with no buttons - just an LED to confirm scanning. It wakes and runs via the Nix Toolkit smartphone app, and scanning only takes a second or so. The results are clear, with both CMYK and sRGB values provided. The app can also colour match to paints and materials, though some of these options do require a subscription. I do think the app could be made a little more intuitive, but overall I was impressed. The zipped carry case is a nice addition, and the colour matching has been very accurate. It’s not cheap, but for anyone working regularly with colour matching it’s certainly worth considering.
