Oh my goodness they worked so well! We stayed much calmer and were able to communicate much better. I’m very impressed with these. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Helps you have conversations with your partner *by M***F on August 24, 2023* The other reviewer that gave 1 star seemed to be looking for a conversation-starter-game sort of card deck. That's not what this is advertised to be - it's for couples to talk about things that are bothering them, in a meaningful way (hence, self-mediation). If you struggle talking with your partner without getting heated or shutting down, or not having the right words to express what you're actually trying to say, this is a tremendous tool. If one of you has done some emotional work, it levels the playing field, as it walks both of you step by step on how to have a conversation - set an intention together; one person speaks sharing the emotions and needs they're feeling (via cards they select - covers pretty much every emotion or need humans have, so if your emotional vocabulary is nil, it doesn't matter / you're covered here); the other person listens and repeats back what they heard; first person confirms they got it right/ adds anything that may have been missed.. etc etc. 2nd person shares their feelings & needs, same back and forth with listening and clarifying. Then work towards coming up with solutions that meet everyone's needs. I had a friend go to a couple's retreat and she said over the 3 days pretty much what they learned was how to have a good relationship = how to effectively communicate. And these cards do exactly that. Kids should be taught this in every school in every grade. We'd all be having way more productive conversations and way less one-sided screaming matches that's for sure. Again, this is not to strike up a conversation with your partner just because/when you're bored. They're for the serious stuff that's hard to talk about, but inevitable in any relationship that is going to be able to stand the test of time.
