Its Painted Black but I do believe it would start to rust after some time. **Q: How do the speakers attach to the stands at the top?** A: A hole in the bottom of the speaker, slots in on top of the pole. **Q: What is the outer diameter of the tube?** A: The outside diameter of the top tube is 35mm. This fits into a tube connected to the legs that is 38mm diameter, with a clamp device. I use my tripod for mounting an aerial using a length of plastic pipe that fits well.
