A good fluffy romance
The book was an easy read with little to no angst. I love it when a book is all fluff. And I loved the fact that the conflict didn't last that long. All in all it was a perfect weekend read for me. I would love to recommend it to people who love stories like this.

Broke my romcom book slump!
I cannot tell you how much I enjoyed this book. I had been hitting a wall with this genre and thinking nothing was going to be feel good without some simultaneous ick/problematic parts, but somehow the algorithm led me to the fourth book in this series which did not grab my interest on its own, but led me to look at the whole series and I instantly knew I wanted to read Perry and Brody's books.Even though these are standalone books, I felt I should start at the beginning and I'm so glad I did. I can tell without reading any of the other books in the series that this is my absolute favorite. I adore Brody. I really like Kate, too.But Brody is the best. One of the nice things about this book is that you really feel that Kate loves him for who he is, not just the glow up he experiences in the past four years even though that part does not escape her attention. I thought there was a nice balance of believable attraction and deeper substance between both of them that would lend itself to a healthy and happy long-term relationship that is still fun, sweet and exhilarating, especially in the early stages. It was kind of a relief not to have to skip passages because of explicit content. I could just savor this book and revel in its sweetness. I would say it's not completely PG because there are some references that skirt the edge without anything actually happening, but probably not anything worse than the average teenager might imagine, but would probably not recommend this to very young (preteen) romcom readers or those who are pretty strict about no references to certain questionable behaviors from a peripheral character or an accidental disrobement.Literally, everyone should have a Brody. He is a great book husband (that's not really a spoiler because obviously, we are going to get a HEA). I think if nothing else, what I liked very much about this book is that the characters were relatable and the reasons for them not getting together right away were realistic, but they were able to work through them through a lot of internal dialogue, which I personally liked and could certainly identify with.Above all, all the characters were good, kind people with whom one could empathize and root for.If I have one criticism it is that books like this that tend to take place in small southern towns are almost completely lacking in diversity. Most of the characters who are described in detail are explicitly described in terms that make them white. There are peripheral characters who don't get other descriptions who could easily (and hopefully) represent more diversity, but it always gives me pause when only white characters are described in specific physical terms and there is not a more intentional effort to include characters of different backgrounds, especially in the South. The other minor criticism which I think just goes along with this genre is that every character is unbelievably beautiful and conventionally handsome, with repeated references to their physique and other aspects. I just think it would be nice to get away from this a little bit but I also think there was a lot more than just physical attraction here, so big points for grounding the story in friendship and other more substantial and critically important parts for love. But overall, this was a very fun read that I couldn't wait to get back to and actually lost sleep over because I was so into the story and couldn't put it down until my eyes literally couldn't stay open anymore.Very excited to start the second story starring the grumpy but very sweet and perceptive Perry because he's already my second favorite Hawthorne.**Unexpected side effect: With kayaks and whitewater kayaking being such an integral part of this story, I now have the theme from the classic Sesame Street kayak clip playing in my head. It literally popped in my head EVERY single time I read the word kayak. If you know you know.

She’s done it again!
I will admit I am more of a high spice reader. I usually stay away from a closed door romance but Jenny Proctor does not disappoint. I am so deep in this world I absolutely adore Brody and Kate! Just all the stars. Highly recommend.
