Quality loss at affordable price!!!
This was bought because of the price, local big box stores want an arm and a leg for theirs! This came compacted and looked to not be a lot, well let me tell you with a little distilled water this thang grew to fill a 2.5 gallon bucket almost to the top! It was a great buy for the price and I will be ordering it again as my plants always need repotting! It looks like high quality moss had no order other than the normal moss smell and I couldn't be happier! Save time and money and order this!

Moss is really good after water is added.looks great in my potted orchids.
When first got my moss I thought what the heck and didn’t think I was very impressed but then after opening up the package and putting it in water I decided it might just work. I think you should put on the package a little bit about how much water and a few instructions for people that are just learning the ins and outs of using moss. I do recommend using this moss and will probably buy it again.

Produces a huge amount of natural peat moss. Helps to increase acidity and retain moisture in soil.
I grow most of our vegetables and herbs year around, and discovered that the soil in my pots was more alkaline than it should be. Most of the plants I grow require soil on the acidic side for microbes to break down nutrients into a usable form. My tomatoes and bell peppers were developing yellow spot on the leaves that I found out could be caused from lack of nutrients. Since I regularly supply these plants with nutrients, I knew that lack of nutrients wasn't the problem. With more research, I found out that microbes in the soil must break down nutrients in the soil in order for the plants to absorb them. For these microbes to do their job, the soil PH should be 6.2 to 6.8. My soil was 7.2.Since Sphagnum moss helps to lower the PH of the soil, I bought this product, and initially, wasn't impressed by the size of the package - it was really small. So, keeping an open mind, I put the small block in a 3 gallon tub and filled it half full of water. Within a couple of minutes, the block began to grow and continued growing. I moved it to a 5-gallon bucket and added more water. It continued to grow until it filled the bucket, but still, it was not all hydrated. So, I moved what was hydrated back into the 3-gallon tub and filled it. I added more water to the bucket, and this product filled the bucket by the time it was fully hydrated. So, my first suggestion would be to cut this block into at least 4 sections if you don't need a lot at one time. This sphagnum moss has very long fibers. It would work well for plants that grow in moss or possible for starting seedlings if mixed with perlite and vermiculite. This moss would also be excellent for air layering which is used to root cuttings on hard wood plants or trees to produce new plants. This is one purpose I plan to use it for.For my general purpose to mix it with soil, I have been breaking up the fibers to make them smaller in order to mix them into the soil. This should lower the PH in the soil and eventually the fibers will break down, but I prefer the sphagnum peat moss that is already broken into smaller pieces as it is easier to mix into the soil. I did find a few twigs in this moss, but not too bad for the amount of moss produced in this quantity. Personally, I wouldn't buy this moss again for my purposes, but it would work great for those growing orchids or other plants that grow in moss.At any rate, lowering the PH for my tomatoes, peppers, and even the veggie greens has had some exceptional results. My tomatoes are consistently producing much larger tomatoes and my pepper plants have a multitude of new flowers and developing peppers.I hope this review is helpful for you.

Great moss but my cat choked on it and I had to pull out a foot long rope of it. No idea why.
There is nothing wrong with this or any other brand of moss I have used so it's not specific to this moss or to the seller of this moss. But please be careful if you have ANY kind of pet. My 15 yr old cat who - to my knowledge has never eaten anything not made specifically for cats. She won't even eat any human foods, but she swallowed a very large amount of this moss when it was very wet. I heard her making terrible sounds and it was coming out of her mouth in a long tightly packed soft stick. She was at a place where it appeared to be stuck and looking almost frantic - so I grabbed the end of the "rope" and VERY SLOWLY started pulling. When we finely got to the end and I measured it, it was exactly 12" long and a little over 1/4" in diameter - exactly the size of her throat. I've never had to worry about this with any item and any pet until this. It was also cold soaking wet - but her water bowl had plently of clear fresh water. It was the first time I EVER actually yelled at her and kept telling her how bad, bad, bad this was. She had a few intestinal issues that followed - first she didn't poop for 2 days so I was getting ready to take her to the vet to make sure something wasn't stuck somewhere. When she pooped a small very wet amount on day three - I didn't see any trace of the moss. On day 4 and since then - everything is normal. I grow a LOT of Carnivorous plants and other plants that enjoy life in a bog so I wet this stuff down when I pot them and wrap the plant roots around many time - along with nothing else in the soil since carnivorous plants get their nutrition from bugs not soil and once this stuff wraps around the plant until it fits in a 3-6" wide mesh container I set it in a bowl with a bottom diameter that is the same as what the mesh container is - then water it 1/2 to 1/3 up the sides. This produces a nice boggish environment and I have NEVER had such great success with these difficult plants since I started doing this - and many of these are very difficult to grow, and they aren't high maintenance since the soil is wet almost all the time. Luckily my cat is 15 and doesn't try to jump very high anymore. She is also declawed (before I adopted her) and this is another reason why not to declaw a cat - they use their front claws for everything unless they are declawed and it's almost like they forget what their paws are for. The pot she got this moss out of was on a bottom shelf. So please watch all your cats of any age and of course any puppies and even any smaller sized dog or just don't use it at all. A large dog likely have large enough throats that they can digest it or throw up without any risk. (except perhaps bulldogs and pugs with their narrow throats)

Great Moss
I did not know what to expect from the moss. I never used moss you had to soak. I soaked one brick for an hour and it fluffed up. I used it for my window boxes, like I do every year. I did not want to spend the money at a big box store; too expensive. This stuff is great!! I will definitely will be purchasing more in the future. I purchased the largest package and only used two bricks for 4 huge window boxes.
