If I needed another, I would buy this again without any regrets
I find great value in this tool. With proper care, it should last a lifetime. I do not know why Amazon desires that I mention Battery Life; but I will say this model was specifically selected because it requires no battery, has no electronic display or any digital functionality (to fail or go out of Calibration). Best described as, "Analog baby." Accuracy confirmed against a different, trusted, 0.001 Caliper and this thing is closer than the listed specifications give it credit for. If for some reason you cannot read a labeled slide-rule, this probably won't work for you. For everyone else, this is the simple, accurate, functional Caliper that you are looking for. I will leave it to a hand model to demonstrate that the thumbscrew locking operation is excellent and smooth, it has smooth and stiff slide-action (not sloppy at all), nice probe depth and allows grip and control in use. Case and even a cleaning cloth included.

My Father was a Machinist Tool & Die Maker
I grew up in a Machine Shop with a Father that made just about everything we owned even Airplanes. And we had only the very best Tools for whatever purpose they were designed for and a pair of Vernier Calipers even in the 1960’s for our Shop cost well over $100 back then. So to have in my hand something this nice for $17 Dollars is incredible! They could use some fine polishing. A fine diamond hone can take some of the roughness off the edges but overall I am extremely satisfied with the quality of these. If they were polished they are $100 Verniers easy. Assuming the accuracy is there? I have no means here to measure that. But judging by how well these are made give or take .002 shouldn’t be a problem and could very well be .001 thousandths accurate. They are nice. Fantastic bargain!

Very Good for Price
Very good overall, though I've noticed a slight error in the placement of some tick marks on the ruler. Still, good enough for my needs. Good price.

I'm not an expert...
OK, as I said, I'm not a technical engineer who has any real experience, or need, for a tool like this. So I'm just giving my opinion overall. I build R/C aircraft, and a set of calipers can come in handy many times when I'm trying to duplicate the sizes of something. I did some research on calipers, and from what I read and watched this is a fairly decent caliper. One point I learned was checking the zero point match, and they do on this set, and that there is no visible gap between the jaws when they are closed, and there weren't, so they appear to be accurate. The instructions tell you to lube the contact points with clock oil, and I used sewing machine oil (same thing I would guess) and I actually did it BEFORE I read the instructions (Hey, I'm a guy, all right?) because the calipers were a little "scratchy" feeling as I slid them back and forth, it was much better after being oiled. I tried measuring a set of feeler gauges to test the accuracy, and what I read on the calipers matched what was etched on the feeler, so the calipers seem to be as accurate as I would ever need. I also love the 6" ruler that came with it, I have several of that size, but they are hard to read (don't get old!) and this one is nicely marked and easy to read. The case it comes in is great to have to keep the calipers protected in my toolbox too. I'm satisfied with them.

Great value, decent quality, as expected
Most of the other reviewers complains about various issues with this caliper: accuracy, oily, possibility of rust, roughness of edges. All right complains, but they need to be put in perspective. If you are considering the purchase of a vernier caliper you know at least something about mechanics. How many parts made such a device? Building that many, with highest quality material, to the highest possible standard for accuracy (hence sharp) on one side of the part (the "internal") and for user friendly (hence smooth) on the other side (the "external") cannot be made cheap. All manufacturing procedures have tradeoffs. So for the price, this is an excellent product. Is it accurate enough? Yes, mine is accurate to the level of the vernier scale, however a tiny bit wobbly at that level, hence one less star in accuracy. Easier to read. Is it oily? Yes, but for most use that's minor problem. Is it rusty? No, but the manual says that if you clean the oil completely it might become so. Is it smooth? No, it's a bit sharp. If I had time to spare and would use it more often than I do, I'd try to smooth it with a file. But for occasional use it's totally usable. At this price, it totally deserves five stars. Granted, if you compare it with a similar one costing 10x its price, it would barely get two stars, perhaps it'd get even just one. But that would be an unfair comparison, like a race between an accomplished world champion and a random kid in middle school.

Suitable for teaching basics
I bought these knowing they are cheap low quality, but good enough to teach the basics of reading vernier calipers. I would not recommend for anything where precision really matters. Anything below .01 is really questionable. Parallel check of the outside jaws is off more than .005 due to improper adjustment of the moving jaw and slide. The fit and finish is what you’d expect for any inexpensive precision tool. However for a cheap set to teach basics and not worry about drops or calibration, these will work.

High Quality
This is a high quality, durable caliper that feels solid and well-made. It slides smoothly, holds its measurement, and does exactly what it is supposed to do. It also comes in a nice protective case, which is a plus. I have no complaints about accuracy or build quality. The only thing I occasionally wish is that I had bought a version with a digital display for quicker readings. That is a preference issue, not a flaw.

Good option when your other caliper batteries are dead.
Bought this because I was sick of my battery calipers always dead. Solid feeling and great option when you run out of batteries

Cheap but good non-professional (or DIY) caliber
Functional and precise. It looks a little cheap, but the price is competitive.

Great everyday tool
Great vernier calipers, but slightly stiff when sliding. I put some oil on it, and it seems to help. Really liked the machinist ruler and case included. Overall, a very helpful tool I use every day.
