Easy to use, not easy for LO to climb. HOWEVER little arms can easily reach under. But adults who don't feel like opening it every time can just step over 🤷🏻‍♀️ it's great to have

Purchased this to install outside at the top of the stairs on second story deck to keep dogs from going down to the yard. Picked this one because it was the tallest one I could find, as we have 60 pound lab and pit, (one of whom likes to jump over things if she can get her head above it) Neither dog is a gate crasher, meaning that they don't jump up on and scratch at doors or try to push through things, and they are mostly respectful of a physical barrier. I would not trust this item with a dog that is willing to push the limits, and also a determined small dog could probably get their nose under it and find their way to escape under it. Other then this, it is a great gate. It has been mounted outside on the deck for 6 months now. I worked flawlessly through the winter (snow and ice included), and has been trouble free. sometimes the release knob is a little fiddly, but if you are patient, it can be opened and closed with only one hand. It's when you get in a hurry that it locks up and requires 2 hands to work. One of our dogs has scratched at it a few times and it seems to have held up. There are some scratches in the fabric, but they didn't make a hole. I have no complaints about this gate as far as our needs go.

This is ideal when you don't always need a barrier since it retracts out of the way. And it's much nicer looking that any metal baby/dog gates out there. But for every day use in a place you'll be opening and closing often, I would probably recommend something easier to operate (i.e. one of those uglier metal gates). It comes with hardware for wood or drywall installation and paper templates so you don't have to measure, just drill through the template. We installed it using the "inside the doorway" mode. You can also install to go against the wall outside the doorway, and that might be easer to catch and latch because to close it, you have to pull it slightly further than the bottom latch, then let the tension tighten on to it while also hooking the top - not one person at our house that operated it could figure out how to do it with one hand. It has spacers in case you mount it where there are floor boards. Unfortunately, our floor boards are the older kind with the embellishment that made them an awkward thickness and we had to install them starting above the floor boards leaving a gap for toys to be constantly rolled under, although somehow no kids ever slid (fully) themselves under it. Once our kids figured out how to push it a little off of the bottom latch, it would quickly zip open with a snap and that seemed borderline unsafe. But it worked for the early crawling/toddling year and a half with our twins and again, the outside-the-doorway installation might have deterred them a bit longer and closed easier for more frequent use. We ultimately moved to a more standard pressure-mount metal gate and that's still in place for our now 3 year olds - it's also much easier for adults to move through the doorway now. I really only knocked it down a star for what I see is false advertising as "one-handed" operation since that was a real selling point for us.

So, I picked up this gate with the intentions of having to buy all new hardware based on others reviews that the hardware was cheap and faulty.Once arrived, I took everything out of the box and decided to try and install using the hardware provided.I had the unique issue where I had to drill into the vinyl siding of our house and thought the screws would be a problem, but they went in and are sturdy. I even had to take them out a few times and re-adjust (the angles on the siding weren’t easy to work with). The only thing I did notice was that the tops strip easily, but I increased the torque on my power drill, which helped and kept the screws from being stripped.The gate itself is perfect for our application. I have a 2 year old toddler, 2 dogs and a cat. It kept everyone inside the deck, safe and sound. Our wide opening made it a little difficult to pull the gate with one hand but I can look past that since everything else about it is perfect.All in all, the gate and it’s components were easy to install, easy to open and close, and does it’s job of keeping the opening to the stairway closed.If I had another opening I needed another gate for, I’d 100% repurchase. That being said, I recommend this gate.

I have a wide space of 60” from the living room wall to the metal banister of the stairs leading down. I needed to have something easy to open or step over to keep the baby out of the kitchen, hallway and away from the stairs. I had a gate at the stairs, one at the kitchen and one in the hallway, which was just too many gates to open and close and step over all day long, so I wanted just one in that space. This retractable gate seemed like a good idea, but now I’m regretting it. First of all, it was very hard to install. If you’re going from wall to wall it’s probably much easier, but we went from wall with a baseboard to a bumpy metal railing and couldn’t get it to line up properly on the first try. After we finally got it installed, we realized how annoying it is to open and close. It’s definitely not a one-handed operation, even if we didn’t have it stretching out 60”. You have to push and turn the little lock on one side and pull it across to latch on the hooks to close it, and while you can push and turn the lock and then start pulling the mesh across and release the lock, if you stop pulling the gate it locks in place wherever you stopped. So if the baby crawls under you and you stop, or you just don’t pull enough to the latches, you then have to stop, push and turn the lock again and pull across. To open it, I have to reach over to the lock and push and turn, and stretch my other arm across to grab the handle to pull it open, so it’s a big reach. My older kids can’t open it, so I have to open it for them. My husband and I can step over it (it’s a big stretch for me), but of course the kids can’t and it’s annoying to have to do that over something so tall anyway (waist high on me, 5’6”). It does block off a space well if you’re not going in and out repeatedly through the gate, and it looks really nice and has a low profile when retracted. I love that when she’s in bed I can just roll the whole thing up to the wall, not move a bunch of gates or keep going through gate doors. She can’t get under it, which I was worried about since it’s mounted to the railing it couldn’t go right against the floor, there’s about a 2” space, and she saw it and tried to press under it and pull up, but it’s not moving. It is mounted very sturdy and she can lean against it and press her face on it and it doesn’t budge. Overall, it works and it looks nice, but the locking mechanism on this particular gate is too tedious to keep in a high traffic area. I ordered one that looks almost identical but has a different lock, and I will be switching them out and putting this one in my dining room where it won’t need to be opened and closed so much.

I hate to write harsh reviews because I know how that can affect someone's business and especially now when we're all struggling financially as well. But these gates are dangerous and not well made and poorly designed. I'm sure someone will post that I did not install them correctly, so for readers I am a degreed Mechanical Engineer and have completely remodeled two vacation properties from the drywall up - all myself. I assure you, they were installed correctly and I bought two - one for inside, the other for my ground level deck. Both suffer the same design flaws.1.) The screws to attach are cheap low quality - two of them broke off at the head while I was screwing them into studs in which I first drilled pilot holes. Doesn't instill confidence that the means to attach the mounting plastic to the wall broke off upon installation.2.) The working end of the retracting mesh where you hook it to the far side to close your stairs or space simply don't lock. All it takes is for our 15 month old grandson to grab the top of the mesh and jerk it to and fro and the retractable mesh will simply retract back to an open stair position. I can't believe anyone is selling this as a safety gate.3.) once retracted, it is a random even whether the mesh is locked in place at the roller mechanism, so even if a child doesn't shake loose the connection hooks, s/he can walk right through and down the steps they will fall since the retraction mechanism doesn't always lock - it's about a 50/50 shot and it may lock and it may not and then a child falls down the stairs.4.)the mesh material is so loose that there is no real tension on it when closing off a space, so a child can easily crawl under the bottom and fall down the stairs.Complete poorly designed safety gate. I wouldn't trust it with the family pet, let alone a human being. If you've installed already and are outside your return window, I urge you to remove them and try something else before tragedy ensues.

I knew it was a gamble, since this is not rated for larger dogs, but mine aren't the kind who challenge barriers, so I set it up in a large entryway to keep my dogs upstairs in the A/C when the temps were in the 105F+ range outside. I also have a cat who is afraid of the dogs (although they really don't care one way or the other about the cat), so I didn't want her to be freaked out by dogs running amuck all over the house. I have four dogs, two of whom are about 60 pound labs. No sense of personal space, so lots of brushing against the barrier as they played and such, but no real challenging.Super easy to install, especially since it comes with the templates that help you to line up the holes correctly. My only complaint is that it is a little awkward to use in larger openings, because you have to twist a knob on one side while you pull the other side. It would be nice if the mechanism to allow it to expand were an on/off knob, rather than something you have to consistently apply pressure to use, something similar to the mechanism on tape measures. If you have an area that is shorter than your arm span, that should not be an issue. Also, for the inline installation, you have to bend the screen a bit to get it to snap into place, so that adds to the awkwardness while you are trying to keep the tension off.Also, if you have baseboards, you might have to adjust the screen slightly. Happily, mine fit right on the baseboard on the anchor side of the screen, where you don't really have any choice, as the anchor side slides into the brackets. I had to install the bottom anchor on a baseboard, but the kit gives you spacers to bring the top anchor to the same level. It took three for me. The other side gives you a little wiggle room, so if the template doesn't work (mine showed the bottom "handle" being half on and half off the baseboard), you can lower it a bit to make it work.Once in place, it feels very sturdy. My dogs sniffed it and tested it with a bit of a push of the nose, then gave up on it. If you have a wrecking ball of a dog, or an aggressive chewer, YMMV, but it did exactly what I wanted it to do, so I am very happy with it. One of my dogs is going in for knee surgery in a few days, so I will likely employ it again to keep her upstairs while she heals, again keeping the cat happier.

This gate is excellent. It took me like 15 minutes to install and it’s perfect for the doorway I needed it for. The doorway is awkward and won’t fit most gates but this one actually fits !! I would 100% recommend !!

The door fitted well on the bedroom door frame and works very well with keeping our puppy away from the bedroom, solid and strong, very happy with it!

Quite good quality, just know you will sometimes need 2 hands to properly operate it. We used it for top of the stairs and are quite happy, with perhaps the only critic of this model type is that, while perfectly discreet and more elegant than other models, *you actually need to remember to close it* - whereas bulkier gates usually have an auto-closing mechanism.Other than that, quite happy and it was pretty easy to install.

It's a good quality retractable gate and fits 1.8 m entrance/openings. All fittings are top quality and instructions are comprehensive. They have taken care of fixing inside and outside doorway and also provided for the floor having skirting. I purchased for a door way that is about 0.9 m wide and fixed it in another opening that is 1.8 m.It works very well and serves the purpose. I was not sure of how it will fare with year old twins, but it serves well.Installation takes some work if you are not accustomed to drilling/DIY stuff.The skirting we had is granite, luckily I consulted a neighbour who advised against drilling in granite with home use drills. Installed it just above the 10-11 cm skirting.
