MEOWFIA Cat Cave – Premium Felt Cat Bed for Indoor Cats, Handmade Merino Wool (Dark Gray, Medium)

I give a lot of 4 and 5 star reviews if the item arrives in good shape and does what it is intended for since I pretty much know what I like and what I need to use. Every once in a while an item arrives that would get more stars if it was possible. This cat cave is one such item. I would give it 10 stars if I could!! However, the early negative reviews (2018 through 2022 when I stopped reading) almost scared me off not only due to manufacturing issues but all the negative mentions of "chemical smell" a common complaint for imports early on especially those made from fabric or wood. One could almost faint from the awful smell in some items. It can be suspected there was little concern regarding chemicals being used. Fortunately, the newer reviews for this item showed enough improvement for me to take a chance since it could be sent back if need be and I liked the look and size. My daughter has a nose that smells all the way across town and she did not notice any odor on a recent visit, thank goodness or it would have gone back. Now to the review since I did purchase this cave. My entire adult life has been lived under the management of various felines. Until the present "manager" all the cats took their multiple naps mostly out of sight. I kept a pallet on a closet floor just for their napping privacy. The current resident needs no privacy. He is needy--he needs to nap near me. This means he naps on the bed, on the sofa, on top of the recliner, in a chair or on my lap, on his cat tree or behind the computer. Another great spot was in an Amazon.com delivery box from which he could see me. Yep, a cardboard box right in plain sight in the living room across from my desk. Several times I would search Amazon to find an item that would replace those Amazon boxes but found nothing I thought would get him to change his boxy ways. I wanted a natural fiber; no man made fibers like polyester would work for him (really would not work of me) so that eliminated much of what was being offered. It also had to look good, at least better than (apologies Amazon) those boxes. It also had to be washable. I also had to overcome my concern about switching off his beloved box! On a recent search I found this MEOWFIA Premium Felt Cat Bed Cave. It is advertised to be 100% free from harsh chemicals and synthetic materials. It is 100% merino wool felt. The wool is from New Zealand, a country that seems organic whether it is fully so or not! By the second descriptive point my complete attention was perked. It looked good. It came in two sizes. It is handmade in Nepal. It seemed perfect! It is perfect. My kitty weighs 8.5 pounds so I ordered him the medium but would definitely consider the large for any future purchases. It arrives folded but is a heavy wool felt so mine popped right back into shape. It arrives with a blue wool ball which can also be purchased separately. I cautiously removed the latest Amazon.com box and placed the cat cave down in the box's place. Then I waited. But not for long. He smelled it a couple of times when he casually strolled by. On the third walk-by he half-way got in, stayed half in for a couple of minutes before retreating. Well all that was hopeful since it was getting a lot of attention. Finally that evening he crawled in. He now spends as much time in it as he did the box so Mom is happy. He can use the inside or he can crunch it and sit on it, either way works for me because that box is gone--replaced with this attractive wool cat cave. It is worth the money. I love it!! Kitty decided to like it. We are both happy. The end!!

TLDR: it’s beautiful and well made. To encourage your cat to use it, put it in a spot that s/he has already claimed and put something familiar inside. I’d been thinking for a while that I would get a wool cat cave for my cat because he loves to play with my wool yarn and my wool dryer balls. I finally got one because he started sleeping on a pile of laundry in the corner of my bedroom. I was thinking I will need to wash those clothes eventually so I went ahead and ordered the cat cave. I put a pair of capri pants he’d been sleeping on inside. He got right in immediately. He’s 14 pounds so I ordered a large and there’s plenty of room for him and the capri pants. When I opened the package, I was impressed immediately by the cat cave’s beauty and craftsmanship. A lot of cat furniture is not very attractive but this is an exception. I’m a fiber artist and can attest that the person who made it used considerable skill and high quality wool. It’s thick and sturdy and is able to poof up on its own despite some lumps from having been folded. I couldn’t detect any smell. Overall, this is a great choice for a beloved kitty.

My elder cat has gone deaf and kept hiding under the bed to feel safe. I bought her this beautiful pod and she is so happy. She spends her days near me, feeling safe and happy. The purring when she first got her pod was nonstop! Thank you for this lovely product, the material and craftsmanship make it extra special.

I wish I would have been able to capture his very first reaction to this bed. This is my first cat so I’m not gonna pretend to know a lot about them, but I was thinking his reaction to this thing HAS to be cause he’s so young or something like that. As soon as I set it down, he RAN in there, but excited. Not scared at all. The above video is about 15 minutes after he first saw it, when I realized I should be filming my new baby! Duh! Also, it comes with this cushy, felt, little, aqua ball that he WOULD NOT PUT DOWN!!! It was so funny. I was very happy and incredibly impressed. He was so obviously thrilled by his new bed and you could see he IMMEDIATELY knew it was his. I don’t know if it’s the design, luck, his age or anything else but, I could not have asked for a better response. Needless to say, he slept there all night... NO issues. Even on his first morning.... he just laid there, awake. Just ENJOYING being in there. It was fascinatingly cute! 🥰 TWO THINGS: hate how it was packaged. It does not end up all cute and round because they fold it to send it to you. As a result, there is a harsh crease down the middle in the bed, which because it’s well crafted and made of such dense, right wool, the crease is harsh and annoying. Especially to a little kitten like mine. Well, I put a thick, microfiber doggie blanket in there and, now.... it’s just the bee’s knees! Lol I HAVE to give it 5 stars though. Moxie’s reaction to his bed dictates no other possible outcome. UPDATE: We’ve now had this kitty cave-bed for abt 10 days and... he LOVES it. Sleeps AND naps in it every day since it’s delivery. He has different favorite spots to nap but he ALWAYS uses it to sleep over-night in. During the day, he uses it sporadically for sleep and LOTS for play (or toy torcher). He drags his little toys in there after “hunting and killing” them. I have to clean the fuzzies of dead-fluff-toys out of there every few days. Lol. I got the small one cause mine is a baby but, I will DEF be getting him a larger one next year, or as soon as he needs it. A+ Purchase all around.

I have tried more cat beds/caves in the past than I care to admit and the main problem I kept running into is they just weren't big enough. We have 5 cats and 2 of them are pretty big. The quality on some of them are really top notch, but if they aren't big enough....well, it really doesnt matter how high in quality they are. So reluctantly I ordered one of these Meowfia caves as the dimensions seemed pretty impressive. To say I was blown away when I recieved it would be a massive understatement as I really didn't read all the details on it before I ordered it. Not only did my 2 bigger cats absolutely love it, as well as my 3 smaller cats, but I also learned that it was hand made in Nepal with Merino wool. I was not expecting that at all. As someone that really enjoys supporting crafting efforts like this from other countries, as opposed to buying things made from Chinese factories time and time again, it was just a really nice surprise to learn than these were hand made in Nepal and that your basically helping to support families over there by purchasing these caves. It was also really nice to see just how high in quality these really are and make no mistake about it, these are about as high quality as your going to get from a cat bed/cave. Not only is it made from Merino wool, but its also pretty thick. Its about as thick as a quality mens wool jacket. I was just not expecting that at all. Its thick enough so that its easily able to hold its shape without caving in on itself. This will definitely help keep your cats warm in the cooler months. Personally, I am a HUGE fan of Merino wool and own a lot of Merino wool clothing (jackets, sweaters, long underwear etc.). One of my favorite clothing companies is Ibex and they use Merino wool pretty much exclusively. For those unfamiliar with the properties of Merino wool, its breathable, naturally resists odor and it doesn’t itch like traditional wool. It really is one of the best natural fibers on the planet. All of those properties really make it a perfect choice for animal caves/beds. Another surpise was that it came with a small Merino wool ball for the cats to play with. So this basically doubles as a cat bed/cave and a toy. My advice, rub a little catnip on the wool ball. It makes them go that much more crazy for the ball. One of my cats, Taboo, wen't absolutly nuts and was just bouncing around like mad in the cave playing with the ball. We were literally laughing out loud. And I like that Meowfia has a package of 6 extra balls that one can buy. One ball is nice, but I already know some of my cats will wind up carrying it away and playing with it in other places. Its just nice having extras balls. My cats loved this cave/bed so much that they were just standing beside it waiting for the cat inside to come back out so they could get back in so I immeditaly logged back onto Amazon and ordered 4 more caves, along with 2 - 6 packs of balls. I just recieved that package earlier this afternoon and my cats were definitely excited when they realized I had ordered more. I set up all 5 caves in the living room, rubbed catnip on the balls, and within 15-20 minutes all 5 of my cats were inside the caves playing with the balls. I love that feeling you get when you discover something that your pets really enjoy!! This was definitely one of those occassions. Ultimately we will spead these out a bit. We'll likely keep 2-3 in the living room and put 2 upstairs. Honestly, my only regret regarding these caves/beds is that is didn't discover them much sooner!! Bottom line - these are without question some of the nicest cat caves/beds on the market. Again, their hand made in Nepal, made with Merino wool, and come with a Merino wool ball so they really do double as both a cave/bed and a toy. And the quality is just top notch! As long as these are properly cared for, I could see these lasting at least 15-20+ years and still be in very good condition. Since they are Merino wool I recommend hand washing and the use of wool specific soap or a soap like Charlies Soap. Personally, I use Charlies Soap on all of my Merino wool clothing. If you hand wash, which again I recommend, just make sure you rinse it really well. All in all, if your looking for a quality cat bed/cave, this should wihout question be at the top of your list. Its a bit more expensive than some of the other caves/beds on the market, but given that its hand made in Nepal and made of Merino wool.....well, its absolutely worth the extra money. Trust me, your cats will absolutely love Meowfia's cat caves. 5 Stars and then some!!

My fussy princess, Rosie, has turned up her nose at four cat beds in a row -- would not even look at them, much less enter. And then I purchased this one - wow. Rosie walked straight in, curled up and that was that. I am using this cat cave as a liner, basically, inside a custom wood cat bed that I keep outside for Rosie, for when things get too chilly for her. She loves the merino wool, amazingly dense and soft, no funky smells, seams or odd placements. I added a self-warming pad and her favorite fuzzy blanket inside, to create a nestling effect inside. My girl loves it.... A few reviewers have noted that the cave arrives folded, creasing issues, etc. I had none of that. Just used my hands to mold it into shape -- super fast and easy. In any case, I am thrilled with this purchase, a bit pricey but it's also a quality product, well constructed and well sized. I purchased Medium - quite roomy inside. Not too big, or too small. Rosie is rather long and lanky, 9.5 pounds.)

Excellent quality. My cat immediately got inside with zero coaxing. It also came with two matching felt toy balls, which the cats also love. 10/10! I might order a second one since our older cat is inside of it constantly. Looks really nice in the house wherever you choose to place it.

Exceptional product at a great value. Extremely well made and exposes my kitty to only natural materials (no toxic polyester). Also, really great company. I accidentally washed mine incorrectly causing shrinkage and they were responsive and generous regarding a replacement.

Mis gatos habían probado otras camas y ninguna les ha gustado. Esta les encanta. Seguramente porque es como una cueva. En la talla M caben los dos dentro porque es bastante amplia. Si se tumban encima sólo cabe uno. El material se ve de calidad y con el mismo estampado que en las imágenes. Lo muerden y arañan y ni se nota. Es muy bonita, calidad y confortable. Me ha llegado muy bien envuelta y atada con cuerda. Además traía una pelota de regalo del mismo material. Un gran acierto. Compraré otra para ponerla en otra parte de casa.
