It just rotate in the same position you have to stop and feed the snake little bit at a time down the drain

Q: Has anyone tried using this to clean a dryer vent?

I think that the drill snake would be way too aggressive especially if you have vinyl hose for your vent. There's a good chance of poking holes in the vent hose.They make hand brushes on a long wand that work fine.
