It works flawlessly, even better than ice ball mold molds because those leave seams around the circumference. The ice balls that come out of this thing are seamless, perfect spheres as long as your ice block is big enough.As for how to source such ice, simply use an insulated 20oz tumbler, fill about 80% full, leave in your freezer with no lid for about 24-30 hours, let thaw long enough to release the ice from the interior cylinder walls (about 30-45 min); and voila, you have an ice cylinder ready to be pressed into a sphere. If you do it right -- that is, don't let the water in the tumblers freeze all the way to the bottom -- your cylinders will come out crystal-clear and yield crystal-clear spheres.

Very happy with the ice ball maker. The quality of the material is very good. Seems to be the best priced ice ball maker as well.

This device makes a perfectly smooth round ball. First block of ice is melted fast and the mold becomes cold. I run the mold under water to warm it up for making the second ball otherwise it takes longer to form the secind ball. Note if you have hard water, dry off the mold after use. Hard water spots will dry on the mold and feel rough which could affect the performance of making a ball.

We ended up buying a large ice tray to use for this machine. It works great! It is quick in making the ball, guests love it and it melts slow.

2.4 inches is much larger than most house-level ice cube makers can produce. You end up with a cube with rounded corners. If they could produce a press only 2 inches it would work perfectly.

This item is classy, well made, and uses premium materials. Here is how it works. YOu use the provided tray to make larger ice cubes and then you put those in this item. It makes a perfectly round ice cube in about a minute. It's pretty cool to watch. You can make as many ice cubes as you want. After two- to 3 I ran the item under hot water, otherwise, it slowed down.

Good quality and worth the money. The overall package adds up into a nice gift.The glass however appears cheap, hence 4 stars.
