Will any hub work with this or do I need their propritary one?

You do need a YoLink Hub or SpeakerHub for full functionality with YoLink devices. It is possible to pair our leak sensors directly to the valve, and also to pair one of our fobs to control the valve, but for the app to work, and for Alexa, Google, IFTTT, Home Assistant, etc, integration, you do need a hub.

Can I plug this in to electric outlet or is it battery only?

This one is battery-only, and you should easily go two years between battery changes. This one is nice because it's a one-piece integrated valve and smart controller.
