I received this drive today, after reading the feedback, I wanted to run CryDisk Benchmark version 8 and AttoDisk Benchmark both Programs ran great as the Photos will Show. I got about 480 Mbs per second. That was deleteling the pre Installed programs completely deleting everything on the drive then selecting create. Then formatted to format32 and wait til it was done.Licky split. It was done in 5-7 minutes and that was a slow format. I don't kmowvwhy others say they can't run Crystal Disk Benchmark on this drive. I did and again the pictures show that it is a performer. Did I get 1020 transfers. I sorry that I got about half of that. That was a marketing ploy it seems. Would I recommend the Crucial X9? Heck YES, and that's because of the performance and sheer size! I'm hoping that this drive to be around for a along time, God forbid, there's a Samsung SSD 2TB right next to in the arm rest.i worry about losing drives, at least it should be safe in the armrest! Update 12/16/2024 this drive is still chugging along. I have noticed that if several videos are are copied from one drive to a larger drive that the wedding videos that my late father and my younger brother Andrew who was my best man the video is 2 hrs where I can still see them both and my mother that remarried to a great guy and her video was 2 hours long. Wouldn't copy both videos. Only if each video was copied and pasted Individually, which was surprising, the my Samsung Evo 2tb drive would copy and paste extremely quickly 8 minutes each wedding video

I got it on sale and was the deal of my life I think. It came right ready for use, I just plugged and was all set. I pair it with my M1 MacBook Pro which only had 256GB and it was a great addition to have more storage easily accesible and fast. Even though its made from aluminum, which makes you think its a great build quality, its really not that great. The aluminum scratched by just being in my bag in about a day, and the rubber part on the bottom, some of the corners kind of disintegrated within just a couple months. So build quality definitely not the strong part. However I use it for work, not for aesthetics so I pretty much don't care if its scratched or not. It doesn't get hot almost at all and it doesn't make any noise obviously since it doesn't have any moving parts. For me its has been a reliable SSD technically speaking and good for extending my storage.

I bought this to replace a couple of SanDisk SDDs that evidently have been failing a lot. I read several reviews on line about the Crucial drives and bought the 2TB version. The first thing you notice is this is tiny. See my picture. The Amazon pic makes it look larger than it is. It's not much bigger than a matchbook. It's well made, sturdy feeling, and has a metal top with rubberized bottom. It also has a lanyard hole in one corner. The cable is a USB C at both ends. That same cable, to support the high data rates, is pretty thick and stiff. But it's short so not an issue for me. My guess is you could use a quality Anker high throughput cable and get more flexibility. Minor issue. Data rate seems to be very good. Slightly slower in download than upload, but might be my imagination. I don't have a reliable way to measure speed, but one of my benchmarks is backing up very large raw photo files. It is indeed speedy. Great product if a bit pricey - but any good high capacity SDD is. I'm using it on a MacBook Air and MacBook Pro with zero compatibility issues.

First of all, what I like about this SSD: - The size is great. It's super small and easily fits in my pockets. It can even fit into my wallet if needed. - The terabyte of space is more than enough for me. It's pretty easy to make folders and organize my files. From pictures and videos. - There aren't any slowdowns or choppyness. All the videos and images I put on uploaded almost instantly and kept the original definition. - The SSD seems very well constructed. I'm always leaning on the side of caution so it would be rare that it would ever be in a position where it could be damaged in the first place, but the metal build is very nice. A few negatives about the SSD include: - There is no password protection like advertised. I'm also not sure if it includes the encryption. - The program does not interface well with my on device gallery. To open files I have to use a file manager and select images one by one. Definitely something to keep in mind if you are using this as a gallery backup for something like photography. - The included cable is nice, but it is somewhat of a hassle to use everytime I want to use the SSD. I wish there was an included case to hold everything together to things have no chance of getting lost. I still think that this is a great SSD and will continue to use it. There are just somethings that aren't said in the advertising that should be taken into consideration before buying it

I bought this to replace the sandisk 4tb ssds that used to be super reliable until they starting failing. Mine would routinely jam up mas os finder, creating beach balls, stopping computer dead in its tracks. It's my main laptop work drive, so i t needs to work with no issues, nada...its just been great and im goign to buy 2 more. I had to dump all the samsungs, only 1 of 5 of them is still in use. I wish this was available before i bought those. Now THIS...which is a better deal then the x10 that doesnt offer better performance...this is great. Its so light i literally have it taped to the laptop case. Feather light. Reviews are solid, even though this is one model behind the latest. I dont rely on amazon reviews, i go to the reliable pc review web sites- this ones legit good. Wish list: I do wish it had a decent hook area integrated into the case like the sandisks/lexar models..ths thing is TINY so if its not attacked to a computer, its goign to get lost guaranteed...be careful. Maybe find a light silicone case to wrap around it so you can see it..its VERY small. And the cord it comes with is very short also, matching the size of this tiny thing.

Do not trust this drive with critical production data or professional workflows. Crucial aggressively markets the X9 Pro to videographers, filmmakers, and digital creatives under the guise of "rugged, pro-grade" reliability. In reality, the hardware under the hood is an architectural disaster waiting to happen. My unit suffered a catastrophic, unprovoked electrical failure during routine use. When connected to standard production gear, the drive suffered an immediate power-stage collapse. It is now 100% electrically dead: The internal status LED will not illuminate. It fails to draw operating bus power across multiple computers (Mac and Windows). Low-level hardware inspection in terminal reveals zero USB enumeration. The host computer does not even register that a physical device is plugged in. Worse, Crucial designed this drive as a cheap, monolithic single-board unit. Unlike professional external solutions that house an M.2 NVMe SSD inside an enclosure, the X9 Pro solders the Silicon Motion controller and NAND flash dies directly to one bare PCB. When the front-end power circuit fails from routine host connection, you cannot shuck the drive, you cannot swap the enclosure, and standard software recovery tools are completely useless. Your data is trapped behind dead silicon. Crucial’s warranty offers zero protection for your work—their policy strictly disclaims any liability for lost files and will only send you a blank replacement after your data is gone. If you are a working professional, stay far away from this product. Look into modular rugged enclosures or dedicated media cards with proper front-end power regulation. This drive is a consumer spreadsheet backup unit masquerading as a professional production tool.

If you use it on Mac, make sure to use Mac format to avoid data loss.

The SSD drive came preformatted and worked straight out of the box. Fast performance with USB 3. Used it as External Storage. Very small form factor which is surprising and handy.

This is so small that you can hide it inside your closed palm. I connected it as a bootable disk on my 2019 iMac and made my computer 50 times faster! I am thinking of buying the 4TB version as well to replace all my external hard disks.

Product as described, good speed for your average media transfers

I have been buying Crucial brand products for years. RAM, SSD's. It is a brand that I have come to trust and love. This 4TB X9 Pro SSD is no slouch as my benchmark in BlackMagic will show. I tested it with a 5gb test file written and read using my Mac Mini M4 Thunder Bolt 4 (USB C) port directly connected to the SSD and it would peak at 1000mb (1gb) per second write but averaged a consistent 914.2 mb/s and would peak at 1100mb (1.1gb) per second read but averaged 847.1mb/s. Far faster than USB 3 standards which when I connected it to these ports came in around 80mb/s with a peak of 300mb/s write and similar for the read. So you can see that if the computer can do the speed like my Mac M4 Mini can on its Thunderbolt 4 (USB C) port, then the drive can keep up. I bought this drive so that I can directly record 4K video onto it using my video capture device. I have been archiving hours of VHS tapes into digital format and some of these tapes can run for 6 hours so the files are huge once captured. This SSD is more than fast enough to keep up with the capture software capturing in 4K so that I have the absolute best RAW copy of the VHS tape for archiving purposes and then once it's in digital format I can drop down the bit-rate and resolution to save space without sacrificing the initial quality of the capture. So what can I say? You won't be disappointed with this SSD and if you are then it's probably your own equipment that is the problem because this SSD is really fast and being a Crucial brand product means you can trust it. The Pro series makes it even better by using ultra high quality flash memory that protects your stored bits using TLC SSD memory instead of QLC. Get one folks... 4TB when on sale it's a really good deal!
