Take it from a skeptic: After 3.5 years, no regrets! This Coway air purifier is perfect!
We purchased this unit in June 2022, nearly 3.5 years ago. That said, this review is coming from a place of experience with this air purifier. We had just adopted two cats that were born in the bushes outside our home, and I don't particularly care for cats (or more specifically, the smell of cats)! I was concerned about the price of this machine, not because it was crazy expensive compared to other machines that claim to be able to do what this purifier does, but because I didn't want to spend even half of what this thing cost just to keep the house from smelling like cats. On top of that, I didn't want to have to keep buying filters for it. I chose to bite the bullet and purchase this because I figured that if this device could keep the cat smell to a minimum, it would be worth every penny. The recommendation is every year or two, but they are so easy to clean that we were able to extend the filter life quite a bit! The outermost screen filters are quick and easy to get the dust off. It takes about one minute per filter (one on each side) to vacuum off. We clean these filters every 45-60 days. The innermost filters - the big ones with the charcoal - we clean every 12 months. Those take a little longer to clean, but no more than 5 minutes with a vacuum attachment. Everything on this device is easy to remove and replace. Now for the important part... Until just this very week, I have never - and I do mean NEVER - noticed a cat smell in our home. My in-laws have a cat, and they have commented several times over the years how amazing it is that our home never smells like cats - or any odors for that matter! My sister-in-law is allergic to cats but doesn't have any issues at our house. Fast forward to today, I have grown a bit fonder of the cats but still don't like cat smells! I came to Amazon today to purchase my very first set of replacement filters, if that tells you anything about the longevity of these filters! I decided to leave this review just in case anyone else is on the fence about this air purifier. It works. Perfectly. All day. Every day. Additionally, I no longer use expensive HEPA filters in our HVAC system because this purifier takes nearly everything out of the air that those would catch anyway. For anyone who's curious: We have a 1900SF home. I was able to find a great location for this fairly close to the middle of our home so that it purifies the entire house. I go weeks at a time without even realizing this thing is in the room - it just blends in and disappears! If it detects odors, it will speed up for a brief period of time, but almost always runs at the lowest speed - nearly silent. I'm certain that this would even work in larger homes than ours, because in our home it typically only runs at 25%. There are a number of controls so you can adjust the speed, setting, schedule, etc., but we never use them. We just set it and forget it. The power this unit can produce (and the amount of air it can move) is incredible. This purifier brings air in from the sides of the unit and exhausts it out from the top, creating perfect circulation. As an added (undocumented, unsupported) function, anything you place near the top of this unit (potpourri, air diffusers, essential oils, etc.) is quickly dispersed throughout the home.

Liked it enough I bought a 2nd one
So far, overall impressive. Quiet, powerful and a noticeable difference in air quality. This unit is a box stand shape and needs to be placed with some common sense to function properly. Air is pulled through the sides (pre filter then main filter), and then expelled through the top grate. The pre filter can be cleaned with a simple removal and vacuum (2 sides). The main filter is thick and charcoal based. There is a sensor on the control panel for the pre-filter that changes its display and color as the pre filter becomes more dirty. Once the pre filter is cleaned, simply hold down the pre button with the sensor for 2-3 seconds and it resets. Very simple, not overbearing and well thought out design. The auto sensor tech is spot on and will kick in the appropriate level of fan control as needed. I liked it enough that I bought a 2nd one 2-weeks later (promo offer was key). This is an expensive unit, and at full price I’m not sure if I would have pulled the trigger so quickly, but so far I’m very pleased with the product, quality and performance. Highly recommended.

Quiet and efficient
I did a lot of review and research on air purifiers before purchasing this one. Although it is not the cheapest, it is also not the most expensive. I have a 1,200 square foot home with 2 large hypoallergenic dogs. There are only 2 of us here with the dogs so not a lot of dust being stirred up. However, we live in Florida and during the cooler months, like to leave the windows open and this is the time of year pollen is very high. We cook a lot at home and in a small house, odors can be overwhelming and linger. Well, that is all over! This machine is amazing! In smart mode it senses air quality changes and adjusts it cleaning rate accordingly. Within an hour or so of the house smelling of bacon, or garlic/onions, the odors are gone. The dust on our furniture has decreased significantly. Pet odors have been all but eliminated. The machine is small and unobtrusive. It is quiet most of the time but when on high can be a little noisy, about like a floor fan on high. That said, I think it kicked onto high once and for about 10 minutes. It is right next to our TV in the LR and I only had to increase the volume a tad to compensate. Overall, great machine! Does what it says it will do and won't break the bank.

Works well, but the instructions are terrible
This unit seems well built. The filters fit in snugly and are good quality. While operating the unit is somewhat self-explanatory (once you figure out that it has touch sensitive regions instead of traditional buttons for changing fan speeds), the instruction manual is an absolute mess, and seems to give contradictory and/or nonsensical directions for smart mode and sleep mode. In one instance, the manual has the same paragraph written out twice but with minor revisions. It appears nobody bothered proofreading any of it. I also can figure out no way to manually operate the fan without having the sleep mode indicator on, and the poorly written instructions don't clearly address this. The unit itself is working well after some trial and error, despite the above weirdness. It detected changes in air quality when I cooked in the kitchen, as well as when I tested the filter with some air freshener spray, and eliminates cooking smells fairly quickly throughout my downstairs floor. I can tell just by looking that the filters are far more than enough to handle dust and pollen with ease. Also, as another reviewer noted, the cardboard frame on the HEPA filters does seem like it would be prone to tearing/pulling off if one isn't very careful when removing them. As I mentioned, the filters have a snug fit, so they take a slight bit of effort to pull out. I think the issue is due to the pull tab being attached to that cardboard frame instead of the main filter body. I doubt a damaged filter frame would impact operations terribly, but it's noteworthy. Overall I am happy with the purchase, but if I had to buy it again I'd probably spring for the wifi-enabled model that has the app, as I imagine that would offer a bit more operational clarity. I would also encourage the manufacturer to have someone re-edit the manual.

WOW!! What a difference!
(Update): 3 days later.... Beautiful day outside so the wife and I spent a few hours out in the yard working. After about 45 minutes I started sneezing and my throat and eyes started to itch. Two hours later I was sniffing, itching eyes tearing up and generally feeling the allergies really kick in. We came back inside and I used my Navage (always use after allergies start in). Normally it clears out the sinuses but the allergies continue BUT this time within an hour or so the symptoms were gone. I spent the rest of the evening as if it had not happened. I have been home 95% of the time, since I got the AirMega, and I have not taken an allergy pill for 8 days now. Before getting the AirMega I took a Claritin first thing in the morning and then 2 Benadryl at bedtime and still dealt with allergy symptoms all day long. Since starting the AirMega I have not used any pills and have not been bothered by allergies at all. Now I just have to buy a marine battery, a power inverter and a child's wagon so that I can take the AirMega with me wherever I go. This truly is the best purchase I've ever made. I really LOVE this thing!!! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ragweed and Mold spores have been through the roof here for the last 3 weeks. I spent every day sneezing, blowing, eyes nose ears and throat itching and generally dying for quite a while now. I purchased this for the sole purpose of allergies (plus dust). It arrived 6 days ago and I had it running 20 minutes after it got here and it's been running on smart mode ever since. Occasionally I see the indicator go from blue to purple and the fan speeds up for maybe 15 minutes before it goes back to blue. Starting the day after I turned it on I have not sneezed one time and the allergies have basically gone away. I can not believe how much better I feel. I honestly feel the difference in the air in my house. This thing is QUIET!!! If it weren't for the indicator lights, you wouldn't even know it was running 99% of the time. On medium fan speed you can barely hear it and on high speed, you can hear it but it's much quieter than a standard fan running in the house. I was leery spending this much on something that I had not seen but Amazon's return policy make it less of a risk. Now after using it.... It is worth every penny and more. I have an 1850 sqft home and I am going to get the 300 to go in the bedroom. For myself, I saw no reason to get the "S" model. I can't imagine any situation where I would need to control it using an App. Definitely recommend this for anyone suffering from allergies.

Excellent, Stylish and Quiet Air Purifiers
Update: It’s been over a year and I’ve replaced the filters once. The prefilters require regular cleaning, but the purifiers provide a status light to ensure you know when it is required. These continue to perform extremely well and I remain very happy with their effectiveness at removing dust and allergens from the air. Update: 5/16/2023: Both purifiers I bought continue to perform well. They are quiet and effective. I’m still using the original filters and still have a lot of life left in them, despite leaving them on the smart setting with a medium fan setting 24/7. Excellent purchase for someone dealing with asthma and/or allergies, pets and wanting a well-built air purifier for cleaner air and better breathing. Original review: I have asthma and allergies and have two dogs, and I wanted two well-designed, effective, stylish, large-capacity air purifiers for our great room and the master bedroom. These are very well constructed, easy to use, and effective. They have a set and forget feature that I really like. The pre-filters are easily cleaned with the vacuum brush attachment on your vacuum cleaner and the purifiers provide a cleaning indicator so you always know the status of the pre-filters. The main filters are very well made and are no doubt very effective and long lasting (I have not yet had to replace them and believe they’ll go a year before that is required.) I highly recommend these air purifiers to anyone wanting cleaner air, fewer dust bunnies, and less pet dander in the home. I set them, so they run when needed and shut off when the air is clean. I turn off the light before sleeping and they continue to perform as needed 24 hours a day. I’m very pleased with these and believe they contribute to better health.

Noticeably cleaner air
This air purifier has been working great for me so far, and I even purchased a second one for my parents! The air quality around here has been less than optimal the past couple of years, and so I decided to invest in air purifiers for my home, especially since I spend a lot of time around the house these days ever since my job has switched to working from home. I have an air quality monitor in the same room as this air purifier, and this purifier makes a notable difference when it is running, especially for particulates and pollen. There are a few things to keep in mind though: - I mostly keep it on the auto setting, which has worked well for me - If you are unfortunate enough to encounter consistently poor air quality for days at a time (for example, from forest fires), this thing will be running on it's HIGHEST setting to provide you with fresh air. This is not surprising to me, when there is literally no clean air anywhere to be found outside, and I feel lucky that I have this unit helping me breathe easily. - The noise levels are reasonable, and the sound this unit makes is not annoying in any way. The highest setting certainly makes some noise, but it is very smooth sounding and it's almost like a soothing background noise without any annoying buzzing sounds that some fans can make at high speed. Noise levels at low and medium speed are perfect, you may not even realize it is running unless the room is silent. - In smart mode, when it automatically switches from off to low to circulate air, the fan seems to make a burst of noise before quieting down that is noticeable -- almost like it starts at high and works its way down from there. This is slightly annoying, but I only notice it if the room is especially quiet. - Having said that, once the smart mode automatically switches to night mode, the unit is almost silent when starting up and running (that is, unless the sensor decides the air needs some purifying, then it might ramp up -- you could force a specific setting if you wanted to avoid the automatic switching too, but I am far too lazy for that). Sleeping in the same room that this unit is operating in is no problem. - The LED lights are too bright to use in a bedroom at night. There is a button to disable the lights, and while this helps, it doesn't disable all of the lights. I can see why they didn't want to disable all of the LEDs, since the ones that stay active are the ones that indicate that the system is running... but perhaps it could have dimmed them a bit when operating in this mode. I used a couple tiny led brightness reducing stickers to solve this problem. - The build quality of the unit itself seems to be top notch, at least as far as I can tell from the outside Overall, I am happy with this unit!

Best Air Purifier hand down!
Have had this for over six months and Love it!! I have hardwood floors so any dust really shows. This has been a game changer! I dust once a week and vacuum the pre-filter, too. Indoor allergies don’t bother us this winter. My SO was skeptical at first, but was blown away by the difference. It does a great job eliminating food odors when cooking…bacon, garlic, onion, etc. This unit blends well with the room and is not loud. This one is used on the main floor in the room between the kitchen and family room…it covers all 3 rooms very nicely. Boys will be boys and they farted by it to see if it would “turn red” and kick in on the auto setting….it did. SMH I have recommended this to others and am very pleased with my purchase. I had two other air purifiers and after much research, I bought this one. I have not had to change the filters yet and I think it’s because I vacuum the pre filters weekly.

Elimina olores y funciona solo.
No tengo un aparato para medir la calidad del aire, pero cuando cocinamos si elimina olores y no es muy ruidoso ni desprende algún olor a plástico. El filtro dice ser 100% HEPA.

Great electronic air filter
We have had this appliance for over a year and it really does a great job at cleaning large amounts of air. We placed it in the dining room, benefiting from air flow from an open concept first floor. It eliminates kitchen smells quite quickly (especially fish and meat). The Smart mode easily detects when more air filtering is needed. At its usual low speed, the machine is actually quite silent. You can hear it well when it is at full blast but the noise is tolerable while you’re getting your air filtered. It also tells you when you need to change your filter based on cumulative airflow rather then just time passed. I’d recommend buying this!

Excellent machine
Very good unit! It does a very good job of cleaning the air in a large area. It draws air in from both sides and returns the clean air thru the top. It has 2 hepa/charcoal filters which is excellent.

Great UI with some annoying UI quirks
Impressive filtering ability, was shocked by how much cat hair the pre filter was catching after just two weeks. The unit looks great, and is quieter than expected. However, two annoying downsides with the user interface decisions: 1) The fan speed lights are always on. The lights off button turns off all lights on the unit but these 2) The controls are touch sensitive with no way to lock them. My cats enjoy using it as a shortcut onto some furniture, and will randomly change the settings when they walk across it.
