61602 MaxiFlex Folding Ruler, Metric, Outside Reading

I grew up with wooden folding rulers that had brass fittings. The Wiha Metric folding ruler is made from some sort of molded plastic. It's hinges are partially an integral molded part of the ruler with a plastic cylinder around which the sections turn. That plastic cylinder is a different type of plastic, softer which will probably withstand the friction better. That plastic cylinder is held in place by a slender metal cotter rod. The hinges have "stops" built in when the unfolding section is at 90º and again when the section is at 180º. The stops feel crisp now but if used extensively I can foresee the plastic wearing down faster than brass fittings of a wooden folder. It doesn't have the same nostalgic feel as a wooden folding ruler, but it doesn't seem horrible. The plastic sections seem to have a similar sturdiness to a wooden folder. The thickness of the sections are similar to that of my wooden folder at 0.3 cm. Honestly when fully folded it lies better than my wooden folders that have the brass fittings. You know how those brass hinges cause the wooden folder to gap slightly between sections? This all plastic metric folder comes together more precisely. I've compared its markings to other metric rules and it appears to be accurately marked. The markings are black. They aren't just painted on. The markings are slightly indented as well so there is a slight serrated feel when on slides a finger along. There is a large 10, 20, et cetera painted in red for every 10 cm. The rule is readable from either side. Its unfolded length is 2 meters. The first section and last section are 21.5 cm, with eight interior sections about 1.5 cm longer. The folded length of the ruler is 23.5 cm with a width of 3.2 cm and thickness of 1.5 cm. The butt of each section has a bit of left over plastic from the mold but not enough for me to want to take sandpaper to it. On the rule it says it is Swiss made. I'm giving it five stars for now. I'll come back and amend that should it not meet that standard over time.

Excellent as a metric only measure. Unlike my metric tape measure which can be in error plus or minus 2mm depending whether you’re pulling or pushing during measurement, This one snaps firmly into place as you unfold it and is 100% accurate against the flat end of this ruler. Also, the measurement ticks on this ruler are embedded, easy to read, and should not fade or rub off unlike my metal tape measure. Very happy with this folding ruler And much easier to use.

Love this folding ruler. I do archeology work, and this ruler has been very beneficial for me in the field. It’s accurate, light, high quality, and easy to use. The plastic used is also very durable.

Outstanding. So handy to have one of these. Really good quality product too. There's a time and a place for a tape measure, but for 95% of everything else, this works way better.

If you need a durable metric folding ruler this one will work. It's strong and locks into place when unfolded/extended. Rigid plastic material helps avoid bending when extended.

I really like this ruler because it doesn't have any metal on it. I have seen many that become unusable because as it ages it also rusts, but this does not which is wonderful! Its angles are sharp and twists easy. All the markings are not just painted on, they are carved into the plastic which means it will last long! Really a great folding ruler, that will last me many years. Although my purpose for this ruler is a bit different than most people's, I use it in training/ competitions for precision shooting. This ruler is great, it does not measure in inches for feet but it is very easy to make marks on it if that is what you wish to see when you look down. I like the simple sequential numbers, the measurements are great for making small adjustments to your position. Another bonus is that when it is delivered in comes in a pouch that will keep it protected in your equipment bag.

Super solid quality plastic. I've used several of these and this one feels the most confident in locking and measuring. Accurate and feels like it will last a very long time. The mm marks aren't the darkest, but they have an actual raised mark which makes reading them a breeze.

Es de buena calidad, los materiales excelentes, muy facil lectura y cómoda su manejo.

Tenia inquietud de usar este tipo de reglas en lugar del clasico flexometro y quede sorprendido, es muy comodo, tiene varios usos hasta como escuadra, sus acabados se ven excelentes, los milimetros estan grabados para que duren mas las marcas. El unico tema es que no puedes medir en espacios pequeños pues no se puede doblar la regla, para eso sirve mas el flexometro.
