a good source of information
I was looking for something to illuminate the world of medieval magic, and stumbled upon this little but interesting book.It is, like mentioned above, a small but very interesting book giving you an insight into how the imagery, symolisms and very shape of the grimoirs, spells and scriptures of the alchemists and witches of that time playd a huge role in the magic they preformed. You have some interesting illustrations and explanations that will be very useful for anyone interested in looking into the field of magic from a historical point of view. I can reccommend you to pick up this book as well as Grimoires: A History of Magic Books by Owen Davies as it is a great companion, and can offer even more insights into this area of medieval thinking.Hope to have been of assistance and wish you luck on gaining more knowledge!

A fascinating departure from the usual illuminated manuscripts
I do illuminated manuscripts and calligraphy as a hobby, so I was thrilled to stumble on this interesting book that's such a departure from the usual Psalms and missals. The printing and paper are lovely and vivid. The content is fascinating - well-written, engaging, and very accessible. Lots to learn about how and why the church recorded instances of magic and sorcery, see how the practitioners are portrayed, and get a view on the ongoing mix of fascination and fear with the occult through history. If you are a lover of manuscripts, odd bits of Medieval history, or one who practices the Craft, I think you'll find it very interesting.

Excellent general book on an intriguing area of history
A brilliant idea for a book, "Magic in Medieval Manuscripts" by Sophie Page gives us fascinating insight into the diverse mysterious forms of magic practiced in Europe during the Middle Ages and analyses the role or significance of magic in the medieval world. The magnificent art illustrations from the British Library's collections perfectly exemplify the readable text content. The book is divided into five chapters and an introduction.Contents:IntroductionThe Medieval MagicianNatural MagicThe Power of the ImageThe Magical UniverseNecromancy and SorceryThis is my first book on the subject of magic and I love it. All those interested in art and history I think will love it too. Check it out :)
