When you put the pack in, there are these little nubs inside the lid that hold onto and then open the top of the pack whenever you open the case. It's cute, sturdy and convenient. Every time I use it I think " man, I love this thing!" Great price and it comes with 2 so you have a backup or can give one to someone else. It's lightweight and only slightly bigger than the pack so it's not bulky.
