A great book
The story was full of suspense and it maintained this until the end. The book had alternating timelines between 2005 and 2015 and the two cases that occured ten years apart were connected with each other. The curiosity as to what might have happened in that night in 2005 was something that made me have a lot of theories, but all of them were proved wrong. The characters were also well-developed like the story. The central character, Oli is a flawed character. She, along with Cooper, who was full of childishness and innocence, made an unlikely pair to find clues, but they were an excellent pair.As for the story, it was exceptional. The questions about the housemates were unanswered until the end and when it was finally revealed, it wasn't something that I ever thought it to be. Overall, this book was a great read !!!

A Good Read
The entire nation of Australia was shaken by a crime that sent shockwaves through the community. After a turbulent party in a Melbourne suburb, three female housemates became the subjects of infamy. The next morning, the scene revealed a horrifying tableau: one housemate was brutally murdered, another covered in her blood, and the third mysteriously vanished, her body never found. The nation was captivated by the Housemate Homicide – a perplexing and disturbing case that remained unsolved for years, leaving everyone baffled and enthralled, including Olive Groves, a journalist who rose to prominence covering the initial murder and subsequently became consumed by the quest to crack the case.Nearly a decade later, the missing housemate's remains are discovered on a remote property in the Victorian countryside. Despite grappling with her own personal demons, Olive is assigned to report on the unfolding story, propelling her back into the depths of her deepest obsession. Partnered with Cooper Ng, a millennial podcaster, Olive becomes deeply engrossed in the investigation, reigniting her fervent determination.

Nail biting suspense book!
Name : The HousemateAuthor : Sarah BaileyGenre : Investigative suspenseGuys guys guys! As a thriller fan, I can declare this fully that this book's twists have the power to make you feel SO naive. I am thrilled to my bone. You are an absolute genius @sarah_bailey_author 🙌! I have to read her other works as well.I just finished the book and I am still reeling from it. I still cannot get over the shock of the twist and how easily I was manipulated into believing a completely different theory 😯. I love investigate suspense books and eerieness of the build up. Everything was so well written and the tension was palpable right from the first chapter, I couldn't stop reading it even during my office hours. Every new chapter brought about a new relevation, it was so addictive. The protagonist, Oli, being a journalist, gave me a fresh peak into the world of print journalism. Her insatiable need to find solutions is something I relate VERY much, so I had an awesome experience going through the story from her perspective. I kept rooting for her till the end. Her dynamic of being a career minded woman stuck with the role of a stepmother she took on unwillingly gave me a lot to think. She reminded me of a Fox crime tv show fmc, very mentally strong and reliable. The other important characters, especially Cooper (🥺), were very well written. Reading Cooper's millenial talk was very refreshing in this otherwise dark story. There were a lot of shady characters in the story that will definitely throw you off track, I can vouch for that. And I REALLY can't get over certain someone's death, midway through the book. 😭The lesson I got from this book is to NEVER cheat during exams. Booksta friends, I know you are giving me a bombastic side eye right now. But trust me 😂. Read the book and you will definitely agree with me. Apart from this very valuable lesson, I didn't have any big emotional relevation from this story. It was a pure straight forward slow burn yet fast paced investigative suspense story.

A compelling read
The housemate is an engrossing suspense thriller with adequate twists at every step. I have never read a book with investigative journalism and a true crime podcast at the center of it. I loved both of them and get to know the intricacies and pressures of journalism. It’s a compelling crime fiction. You will keep guessing till the end. The only thing I didn’t like is that it’s too lengthy. Some things were explained in so much detail which was of no use. But overall an enjoyable and thrilling read.I would definitely recommend this to all murder mystery lovers. Go for it.

WOW, what a story!
I read this in one sitting with many cups of tea. The storyline was well crafted and believable, the characters were well defined and engaging. The character of Oli could easily evolve into a series, I hope. Sarah Bailey doesn't disappoint.

Slow burn
This story was satisfying and held my interest. Good characters and well drawn. I found the protagonist a bit hard to like. Towards the end it became unbelievable and I’m over corrupt police in these crime novels. Most of the story was engaging.
