Can I feed the conure with that or just give it as a treat?** A: It is both - a food or a treat , as the label says if you zoom in on the description. I have had my Amazon for over 35 years and for at these the last 15 he has had these as a food and treat. As you parrot ages you need to keep them occupied, the berries are a great way to add to your birds diet the natural act of working for their food. If I were independently wealthy, or did not also have 4 dogs I would give him more than what I do now. A 3.25 lb. package lasts a month for my bird. I feel these are important to keep his weight up as he ages. He hates pellets, so he gets a fortified seed combo and fresh veggies and fruits. The Nurtaberries are an addition, 8 -10 a day. I am a bit on the frugal side and since there is a lot of waste if the berries are left whole when I give them to him, I take 2 and squeeze together and they break into halves or quarter pieces. He eats more this way and less on the floor of his cage. Although they are listed as only 8% fat I feel like they are an important part of his diet as he ages. Parrots need a lot of calories, especially as they age. Many a parrot has gotten ill for lack of added fat in their diet. (Even allowing them to chew the fat from a pork chop bone was advised by my avian vet.) If you notice any weight loss add more of these. I also use Avigain as an added weight supplement and Avigreen as a greens supplement. Both of these are sold here on Amazon at the same greatly reduced price compared to your local pet store or the vet. Conures can vary in size, so I don't feel comfortable answering the Conure use. I would read the label, beak size has a lot to do with the berry size. As I use these as a supplement I can say that 1 3.25 container would not be enough for feeding my Red Lore Amazon parrot, also known as a Mexican Parrot. If your Conure is a small parrot size, you would need more than 1 container a month, or use as an added supplement to other food. **Q: Is there an expriation date printed on the container and is it returnable if I recieve a bad container?** A: Yes, there is an expiration date. I have never received or returned a bad container. My bird adore these. **Q: How many are in here, and how long will they stay fresh? I have a sun conure, so I'm not sure if I should buy the smaller tub.** A: I have an old sun conure ( 23) and he eats one bucket 3.5 lbs a month. He doesn't eat anything else. I freeze it first to kill any bugs and then it does stay fresh. ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Challenging -- Nutritional -- Reasonable Price *by on Reviewed in the United States August 4, 2016* This is another Lafeber product that we use to change up our African Grey's diet. Our prior success from using the Nutri-Berry formulas has helped us keep Socrates happy and healthy for about 20 years. It might have even changed her sex (just kidding) since she was sold to us as a male (hence the name) but has occasionally laid eggs for us. Evidently sexing Greys is not an easy or exact process.Thankfully she loves the Lafeber parrot foods in all the various offerings. She gets a healthy mix of veggies and fruits every day as well as periodic servings of some of the Nutri-Berry formulas during the day. Her favorite treat seems to be a long string of spaghetti, something that is tasty and proves challenging to eat. We often place the Nutri-Berries in various spots in her cage, using toys and small empty boxes to hide them.The berries are also a pretty good delivery system if we ever have to give her medicine. When she contracted a bacterial infection we were able to get the medicine into her by coating her berries with the prescribed amount of medicine. This may not work in extreme cases (please check with your vet) but it does avoid the stress and potential trauma of removing her from her cage and using a syringe to put the medicine in her beak. Feeling unwell can make your bird agitated and aggressive even if their normal personality is calm and accepting. Having an alternative way to avoid injury to your bird and/or yourself is important.Please remember that African Greys spend 90% of their time in the wild foraging for food. Since giving them food directly every day takes the mystery and effort out of sourcing their food, consider making it more interesting/challenging for her/him to seek it out. Hide their food in small paper bags, boxes or toys. Give them half of an apple to pick at and tear apart. Make sure that they have cardboard boxes or paper towel cylinders to shred. It's also beneficial to have a radio or TV on whenever you are not in the same room with them. In fact, for some reason, our Socrates speaks more often when we are in another room.
