Little Tikes Story Dream Machine Starter Set, Storytime, Books, Little Golden...

UPDATE (4/25/2025): 9 months later and we love this machine! It's become a bedtime staple. All the cassettes we own (I have 15) are still working great. Nothing has broken yet! It is important to note that audio issues and flickering can happen if the batteries are low. Couple things outright: it's a very lowtech device. It only has 5 buttons (six if you count that you can push the light on top to turn it on and off). The cartridges themselfs are plastic squares with "view master" style transparent film. It's really only a projector that reads the stories, so it has to be used in a darker room and it doesn't have a crazy range of distance before the image is slightly blurry no matter what. But that's EXACTLY what I wanted. I didn't want another screen or something that requires a ton of setup. PROS: -It's extremely easy to use (so a little kid could DEFINITELY figure this thing out solo) -takes AA batteries. My sister has had hers for months and hasn't had to change the batteries yet. -sturdy, like REALLY sturdy! The plastic feels higher quality than a lot of toys in recent years. The design has very few things that could actually break. (I list these under CONS) -The unit is loud, but a safe decible for everyone. -the lens for the projector is really far back into the unit to prevent damage -Good for a wide range of ages. I have a 1yo, 5yo, and 9yo, they ALL love this projector! -If you are exhausted at the end of the day or don't like reading yourself, this is a WONDERFUL option for bedtime stories! -Everything is extremely lightweight. No concussions or broken fingers with this thing. I would seriously trust having it in a room with my toddler unsupervised. -it's a noise machine and nightlight -$14 for 3 books is SO reasonable compared to paper and board books and the unit itself is $50. It comes with 3 books already, so the actual machine is closer to $35. Stuff has been expensive lately, which makes the pricepoint much more accessible than alternatives. The beauty of this toy is the simplicity of the design and the thoughtfulness of it's features. I would have KILLED for something like this as a kid. CONS: -the little windows that are on the cartridges are cut outs and expose the film to being damaged. I wouldn't worry about really little kids, but a bigger kid could take something pointy and puncture the film. I haven't had this happen, but it would kinda suck. -the light isn't flimsy, but the fact that the whole light is a button might make it break a lot sooner than if the light had a separate button and the "bulb" didn't move around -I really feel like a carrying case should be included. This is my only real gripe about the product, but it is the biggest flaw IMO. I would have paid an extra $10-15 to have something to keep the small cassettes from going missing. They do have off brand options, but I would have liked something nice with the brand name on it. The cons are just nitpicking, though. I couldn't be happier to have bought this. My kids have a blast having stories being read to them without using a screen or needing to have me read 5 books. I get to sit and watch them have fun and maybe get to scroll on my phone for a few minutes. It's so much fun and my family is going to get tons of use out of this toy!

I bought the Little Tikes Story Dream Machine Starter Set for my nephew’s 3rd birthday, and it has quickly become his favorite toy. This set is fantastic for sparking a child’s imagination with interactive stories and beloved characters like the Poky Little Puppy. It also doubles as a nightlight, making it both fun and functional for bedtime. Setting it up was a breeze I followed the instructions, and within minutes, it was ready to go. The machine is super easy to use, even for young children. My nephew had no trouble figuring it out, and now he plays with it daily. One thing to note is that it only comes with three classic, old-timey stories. While they are timeless, I found that buying additional story cartridges separately gave my nephew more variety and kept things fresh. I would recommend purchasing more stories right from the start to keep your little one engaged longer. I bought this for a sleepover as something fun and different, and it quickly became the highlight of the night! The 3-year-old was completely captivated and said it helped her fall asleep. Now she wants it every night! We were so impressed that we bought another Story Dream Machine along with several more character and book sets. Easy 5 stars! So much fun.…

We bought this storytime projector as a birthday gift for our son who just turned 4, and it ended up being a gift the whole family enjoyed. That night, we all found ourselves lying in his room in the dark, watching the stories projected on the wall. It was such a sweet and cozy experience. The projector is very simple to use and worked smoothly right out of the box. It has the classic, nostalgic Little Tikes design and colors that we love. The projector is light weight and easily stored. The built-in handle makes it easy to carry, and while there is an option to purchase a separate carrying case, we don’t plan to travel with it—so we’ll likely just store it in our son’s room. It projects clearly from about 6 to 10 feet away, and we were able to see the images and read the words without any trouble. The volume was great too—we could all hear it clearly from different spots in the room. The projector came with a few classic stories, originally written in 1942, 1947, and 1952. While these books are timeless and sweet, they do feel a bit outdated and may not be as engaging for today's kids. Thankfully, there are additional story reels available, and we’re excited to add more modern options as future gifts for birthdays or Christmas. Overall, this turned out to be a wonderful and memorable gif. Not just for our son, but for the whole family to enjoy together during storytime

This toy is great! My grand baby carries it around with her and loves playing the stories. It is easy to use and to pack in her bag for travel. She now at 3 has a favorite character....The Grinch!! It keeps her attention for longer periods of time.

I highly recommend this. The sound quality is great for what you’re paying, and what you’re getting. Entertainment value is priceless. This thing is SO NEAT! I’m amazed by it. It’s perfectly sized, so it doesn’t take up too much room, and there are plenty of areas for it to fit storage wise. The quality is 10/10. I’m so happy with this purchase. We can’t wait to order more books for it! It makes for great family time and has added more reading to our household (which was much needed tbh.) also, I looove the fact that you don’t have to plug this thing in. No cords = best thing ever. Fun fact- this thing is a gem with or without books! It also doubles as a night light, and a sound machine! I’ll upload a video to show you. I was only able to video 4/5 of the sleep sounds it makes do to my 3 year old having a tantrum, but you’ll get the idea of the 5 sounds. The last sound that isn’t in the video is basically a white noise! The sound quality for the sleep sounds is right on par with my actual sleep sound machine that I use on a nightly basis, in my opinion. There are no downsides to this product-apart from the sound it makes when “turning the pages,” but that’s not a big deal in our household—and noise is normally a huge thing for us because everyone has such sensitive hearing (autism spectrum / neurodivergent household). So I wouldn’t even consider that a downside. Don’t hesitate. Trust me. You will not regret buying this. —— But if for some unimaginable reason you do regret it…there’s always the return policy, so you’re safe either way. :P (Jk…kinda). For real though, it’s an awesome product and I’m so thankful we found one for our little dudes to enjoy with us. •I had to make video and stitch multiple vids together for this review since it will only let us post one video per review. This is such a cute projector. It works really well and my grand babies love it! The story are not videos, they are like the old school books. The show page by page and are narrated, likely the original narration. I did have to adjust the crispness of the pics here and there but overall it didnt affect the kids enjoyment. I bought this partially because you can purchase more stories for it. It was worth the money if you dont mind the old school story book graphics and narration. This is an honest 5/5 star rating.

This toy didn’t exist for me when I was a kid in the 90’s but for some reason it just feels so nostalgic. It’s classic little tikes! The stories are great, lots to choose from. Made a great gift for my toddler this past Christmas and the biggest plus is it keeps him entertained for at least 20 minutes a day.
