UK-based metallers TesseracT will celebrate the dawn of a new decade with something truly special when they unleash their debut album 'One' in early 2011. The record will mark the realisation of a bold, experimental creative vision that began in 2003 as a solo writing project in the mind of guitarist Acle Kahney, and has subsequently spawned one of the most hotly tipped metal bands in the UK. TesseracT is all about three things: experimentation, musical emotion and groove. Bonus DVD contains the entire Concealing Fate EP recorded live in the studio in one take with no overdubs along with band interviews and live footage shot over in the UK.

Great sound but lacks maturity, diversity to be really superb.
Based on what I heard from the 30 second clips on the site, I was expecting to really like this album. And, to be fair, I did end up enjoying the album after giving it a couple weeks to grow on me. However, while the sound they've put together is quite interesting - kind of a cross between Linkin Park (sans the rap elements) meets Porcupine Tree with a mishmash of nu-metal influences, including quite a bit of the screaming type of vocals prevalent in many nu-metal albums - they tend to take some great ideas and grind on them until they get a bit tedious at times. There is a bit of complexity and nuance after you've given the album 4-5 spins that's not readily apparent, so once you "get over the hump", the album goes from being a 3 star to a 4 star effort, but still lacks a few things keeping it out of 5 star territory. If they had taken some of the ideas and expanded and varied them a bit to add some diversity, perhaps a change of pace or tempo here and there or really anything to mix things up, it might have made all the difference in the world because what we got was some great ideas, but much of it didn't stray far from home base and it can be difficult to get through if you're actively listening to the album unless you're just really in that specific space at the time.I think with a little maturity (musically only, the lyrics were already quite good) this group could put out some really great music because I really do enjoy their sound, even if at times it can get a bit repetitive. It should also be noted that while I tolerate screaming and death metal growls on albums, and in some cases actually enjoy it if used sparsely (Threshold's "Dead Reckoning", Cynic's "Traced in Air") there's a lot of the screaming vocals here which might have colored my opinion a bit. Still, all in all, I love the sound and it's quality music and would recommend to anyone who's a fan of progressive-ish sounding nu-metal.

A Promising Band
A friend of mine recently introduced me to the likes of TesseracT, a young band with a lot of energy and a solid vision. I purchased "One" and have listened to it thoroughly, the infelicities are minor. The amount and depth of the guitar riffs in this album are above average but nothing amazing, the lead guitarist does have a knack for good phrasing. The vocalist is very passionate and the lyrics are quite mature considering this album is a debut effort. Hats off to the drummer; his energy radiates off the speakers and headphones of any listener. The only way to describe the bass player in this album is that he has a silent presence, if one takes him away from the mix it would be definitely noticeable yet he never blatantly sticks out or gets in the way of his fellow band members. The key tracks without a doubt are 3-8 which are Parts I-VI of "Concealing Fate". Every song is well-constructed on this album, one just wishes that the lead guitarist would unleash a little more.

Fresh addition to modern music
I had lost all hope within modern metal music. Many bands have ruined the name that the 70's and 80's created. Well, this wonderful record may not be what used to be known as metal, but it steps into a new genre that it created. It fuses the technical rhythms of the more progressive bands but leaves out all of the horrible aspects that makes the genres "hardcore" and "metalcore" as terrible as they are. The vocals are unique and smooth, yet, they remind me of Maynard from tool. I grew up in the thrash metal and viking metal genres, but this album is absolutely perfect. I recommend to anyone who wants to hear something fresh and new, but who doesn't want to hear the mess that has become of metal such as: lamb of god, trivium, avenged sevenfold, august burns red. Please support these guys so that they may continue into their experimental search for new music.

My most listened to album since I got it
I've been a metal fan for a long time. Complex, loud music is something I really like, but I've not taken the leap into Math Metal until now. This is a great album. The music goes from quiet to loud, gentle to jarring, simple to intricate and from regular vocals to metal screaming without overdoing anything.Since I got it I've listened to it more than any other music, so it's a hit with me.All the tracks are good but the multipart "Concealing Fate" is definitely my favorite. If you like this genre or just well written and well played music in general then this is for you.

Good except for a few things...
I gave these guys a shot after them winning the New Blood award from Progessive Music Awards 2012. After listening to the album several times, I disagree that these guys are the best new progrock band out there. The music is mostly pretty good, but the vocals get old. The alternating shouting and screaming kind of grated on me after awhile. Also, the double bass is overdone and mixed a little too high. It's like listening to good music on a construction site where hammers beat loudly and repeatedly and other people shout orders back and forth to each other over the noise. But hey, if you're into shouting and screaming and a lot of heavy double bass, this album might just be right for you.

One of the best new bands today!
One of My friends recommended Tesseract and I did listen to samples first and then got album ONE. I am so excited and have been listening to them since, every day!!! Still being amazed by how young and how mature their music is!!!! How beautiful in every way!!!! I am a long time prog music fan including My all time favorite band Porcupine Tree and musician Steven Wilson. This is right up my alley!! I immensely enjoy discovering new bands and new artists!!! This band and this album deserves all 5 stars for sure!!!!

Spectacular
The best music I've listened to this year, and I've found a lot of good new music in 2011. What can I say that hasn't already been said? The musicianship is spectacular, and in a way that's all about the music. The singer is fantastic, able to go from soaring vocals to that new-metal growl in a way that works very effectively for the songs (I'm usually not fond of the growly stuff). The lyrics, the polyphonic rhythms, the great djenty sound...wow. I'll definitely be keeping this band on my radar.

Premier opus, réussite totale
Une nouvelle façon d'aborder la musique, autant dans la composition que dans l'exécution qui révèle des musiciens hors pair.Le DVD joint est tres interessant.
