The material is a "hard rubber" like material. If painted with a flexible type paint it might work but I would be doubtful it would last long. I had to cut a couple of bumps off because I have wheel flares that cover that space. It cut fairly easily with a packing knife.

what comes with the kit?

This comes with all the plastic connectors/pins (all the same length) but I found that I reused two pins from my truck for the back mud flaps, top hole if I recall as these pins were shorter and snugged the flap closer to truck. Does "not" come with metal brackets for the back flaps support but I screwed the passenger one to the plastic back that was there. And for the driver side there it that big gap especially with my hybrid (muffle is under the center of truck) so I bought a cheap mud flap at fleet farm and patched the hole with that and then attached it to that flap. Makes the back mud flaps very sturdy ... those screws are ones I had and are "not part" of this kit. Hope that helps
