## Description

Coleus Forskohlii capsules contain a maximum strength serving size.

Review: A potent, high-value supplement, but make sure to take it with food. - I picked up this Coleus Forskohlii to help support my metabolism and daily energy levels. I placed a banana next to the bottle in the picture for scale, which is fitting since taking this supplement definitely won't magically burn off the calories of a banana split! Nutricost is generally my go-to brand because they provide high-quality, pure extracts without the massive markup of boutique supplement brands. WHAT WORKS WELL: • The 500mg dose is highly potent, meaning you only have to take one capsule a day rather than swallowing a handful of weaker pills to get the desired effect. • The capsules are a standard size, have absolutely no weird aftertaste, and are very easy to swallow. THE CATCH: • Because this is a maximum-strength herbal extract, it is highly concentrated. If you take this first thing in the morning on a completely empty stomach, it will likely give you a bout of mild nausea or stomach discomfort. You definitely want to take it with a solid meal to buffer it. THE BOTTOM LINE: An excellent, high-value metabolism supplement that works great as long as you remember to eat something first.
Review: Results Delivered. I'm Impressed! - I am quite impressed with Forskolin (Coleus forskohlii) supplements for fat loss. I already have a tight nutrition and exercise program, but had hit a solid wall on burning off any more fat. I have used the typical stimulatory thermogenic compounds to burn off stubborn fat in the past and I just don’t care to revisit those. They’re often at least moderately effective, but my cardiovascular health is more important to me than burning fat with stimulatory thermogenic compounds that can unnecessarily tax the cardiovascular system. So in comes forskolin, the primary component of Coleus forskohlii extract. The studies on this stuff are both intriguing and exciting, so I put this on my shortlist to try. The first thing that caught my attention was obviously, the potent fat loss effects seen in studies (see the 2005 University of Kansas study by Godard, Johnson, et al for instance). The other thing that I really liked seeing is that forskolin is a cAMP stimulator and promotes significant thermogenesis, but unlike more typical stimulatory thermogenic compounds that are adrenergic alpha & beta agonists that raise blood pressure and stimulate cardiac tissue, forskolin is a POST-RECEPTOR agent, meaning it bypasses adrenergic receptor activation and directly activates cyclase activity without the negative cardiovascular side effects. In fact, forskolin actually lowers blood pressure, acts as a vasodilator, and inhibits platelet aggregation – all good news for the heart! So time for the brass tacks of it. Does it really work? As I said, my nutrition and exercise programs are already pretty tight, but I had put on some holiday fat. I’ve been lifting off and on for 20+ years and incorporating occasional Crossfit style training for about the last 3 years and figured I could burn it off fairly easily back on the plan. But that wall I hit on fat loss was solid – not moving. So in trying forskolin to see if it would work, I kept my nutrition and exercise the same, and then added 1 capsule (250mg) 2x a day – morning and lunch. In just 3 weeks, the wall has come down and I’ve lost 7 lbs of fat and shaved nearly an inch off of my midsection, all the while seeing strength and muscle mass maintained. That’s why I said I’m impressed! This stuff seems to legitimately work. Now, a word of caution though. One odd aspect of forskolin, is that it seems to work much better for men than women. In fact some studies (see 2005 study by Henderson, Magu et al in Journal of the International Society of Sports Nutrition for example) show that women taking forskolin did not experience ANY fat loss, but at best prevented weight gain and reduced hunger. That’s something to consider before taking this if you’re a woman. For men though, the results are impressive and it is worth the inexpensive cost to give forskolin a try (not to mention forskolin has been demonstrated to increase testosterone, but not by much – still a potential benefit). All in all, this product worked quite well and left me impressed. Knowing that forskolin does indeed deliver what it promises and is heart healthy, the really big issue is not whether it works, but which supplement companies can be trusted to actually have the stated ingredients in the stated amounts in their product. Third party lab tested products would be ideal, and it wouldn’t be a bad idea to subscribe to something like ConsumerLabs, although their variety of tested products is a bit limited. Even this product, while delivering results, I can’t say for certain it has exactly what it claims. It seems to, and the results favor that, but be cautious. Bottom line, Forskolin works and I encourage its use, but be careful of where and from which manufacturer you buy it. Do your homework.
