Comprehensive, highly informative fine analysis likely to be a go to text
For a fine academic work written in an engaging and enjoyable style thus lending itself to a non academic readership.Very balanced in its' analysis of what for some can remain an emotive subject. In summary a fair and valid critique of the contributory circumstances, variables, politics and key personalities impacting on the Scottish Reformation.

Surprisingly easy to read.
Highly informative, well researched and, unlike so many other academic books, the writing style makes reading it a pleasure rather than a chore.

Well structured
I've read many a book on facets of Scottish history. A good few betray their title subject by merely filling the pages with a rehash of a general history of the time in question and attempt to shoehorn the purported theme into the general text or add the theme in the last few pages of the book. Alec Ryrie sticks to the point throughout this book. He never wanders or meanders into a mere general history of the time and always uses events to underscore the path of reformation and those that influenced events most markedly. A very enjoyable, well researched book full of insight and difficult to stop reading! I would highly recommend this book.
