Works wonderfully

We have 'hard' water here that leaves spots, plus wife read a report about the various 'things' in the city water supply... so I bought a 'whole house' size filter to go in the water line to the hot water heater (already have a 'one faucet' filter for the cold water at the kitchen sink for drinking and the daily coffee pot) . While installing this filter I learned something... the water lines I installed going to our two yard faucets are all PVC... which use glue to fit the long pieces together and screw fittings in some places... when screwing parts together I have always used Teflon tape on the threads, which works perfectly . The filter I bought has metal threads... and I found out that tape does not work well... so I dug in the bottom of my supplies and found a tube of Teflon paste... I put paste on the threads of the external fitting that connects to the water line, and on the threads inside the filter housing, and screwed the two parts together... solved the problem of the 'drip' that was working its way through the tape covered threads (my guess is the metal threads were shredding the Teflon tape) I doubt I will ever work with something that has metal threads again, but if I do I will know that tape doesn't work well . I just installed the filter, so I don't know the long term results... but the filter housing is well made, so now it is just a matter of how well the filter element works (which is not part of this purchase, the filter element is a different purchase)

My previous whole house filter blew completely off it's housing where the threads mate the other day. Of course it flooded my garage. What's new? This one is much better in three ways: First, this one actually bottoms out when you thread it on. My last one had two o-rings on the outside of the canister where it was slightly tapered. This design allowed the canister to push up into the lid and push outward. Unfortunately that one leaked, so I had to tighten it a bit more than I wanted to. That eventually caused the housing to fail. On this design the o-ring is on the top edge of the canister. When you thread it in, it actually pinches tight and cannot go any further, so you know when it's tight, and it's not exerting outward force on the top housing. Much better design, and sure enough, I had no issues with leaks on this one. I do recommend you get some food grade silicone sealant for the o-rings. Second; This one has brass inserts for the input and output threads. This is much better than the plastic molded ones, I promise! The difference is that the brass has a better taper that matches the threads on my PVC better than the molded plastic one did. I needed a lot less thread dope for this one and had no issues. DO NOT overtighten, otherwise you can split the brass... It doesn't flex quite as well as plastic, but it makes for a better mating surface. And finally, I noticed that this one seems to automatically let the air out of the red air relief valve. My last one didn't do that... you had to manually bleed the air out. That's a nice touch! They're actually thinking of ways to make the product perform better! They also had a protective cap on the relief valve so it doesn't break in transit. Overall I wish I had bought this one from the outset! Whatever you do, DO NOT buy one that has the o-rings on the outside of the canister at the top of the threads! That is a poor design that causes premature failure. This one has one on the top of the canister and one below the threads, which is a MUCH better design as it pertains to both leaks but also stress on the housing. Quite pleased with this one so far!

I used this 4” filter can to replace a 25 year old model. While everything was sized and aligned as expected, I took off 1 star for the machining of the 1” threaded brass female connections. I had to use an excessive amount of Teflon tape to snug the connection enough. The first try, the ABS fittings, with normal taping, would not hold the pressure( about 50 psi). I glad I did not have to do it a third time.

All the key parts were included. The tool for turning it was critical. It all fit in nicely to an existing system. I consider the price to be a great value

Excellent, easy installation.

It is supposed to be a replacement for the Pelican housing which had developed a crack after 13 years. But the threads were different and it would not fit into the top cap. So instead of a $75 bill for the plumber to come out and change it, the pipes and old cap had to be disconnected, and new copper pipes etc installed--for $1100.

Yes it filtered the sand an other particles as long as you get a correct filter for it not standard one. I have a well an needed to fill hot tub Just remember it’s a inch on both ends so you will need a reducer to 3/4 hot a hose
