Solid roof basket
This roof rack is sturdy and well built. Since it's aluminum, there should be no issue with rust/oxidation over the life of the product, which is the main reason I chose this over a steel or alloy one. The color is not black, it's more of a very dark non-reflective silver. The 4 plastic parts are black, but they just hold the front and rear wind deflectors on the basket, they are not structural pieces, aside from the ~6 lbs of stuff they hold onto the main body of the basket.Assembly is fast, just pop on the front and rear wind deflectors and attach 4 screws to each (8 total, with rubber washers) and the roof basket is fully assembled. In total, maybe 15 minutes to unbox, inspect, and assemble.Mounting takes a bit longer, you can only mount this where a crossbeam is directly lined up with one of the first or last two basket crossbeams. I'd suggest fully mounting the front, then adjusting the rear roof rack to line up with the rear basket beam. It took me about 20 minutes to get that lined up and locked down. Total car mounting time on a Kia Telluride - ~40 minutes. If I had a person helping me, it may have taken maybe 30 minutes total from opening the box to being finished. The weight and size of this makes it very hard to maneuver. It's about 43" wide and close to 46" long. This rack weighs ~35 lbs, so subtract that from the roof rails max weight, and that's the most you can load into the basket. I've got a 165 max roof rail capacity, so I can only pop about 130 lbs of stuff in it.Overall this is very nice, and very versatile. I'm hoping this lasts years.Update: 400 miles into a 550 mile road trip - 0 noise at any speed between 5 mph in traffic up to about 85 mph on the highway. It dropped gas mileage by about 1.5 mpg with a very non-aerodynamic load in it. I was expecting much worse gas mileage. No loosening or movement of the rack at all.

Great roof basket.
This is a great addition for our cross track. A great price and a great product. Although I did arrive slightly damaged. Nothing that I couldn't take care of though.

Poor packaging arrived damaged.
I ordered this rack based on the pictures from the manufacturer thinking that it looked really good for the money. The design is really good but the packing or lack there of and execution of the build are highly lacking. The first order I received came in the original unopened and undamaged box with a cardboard sleeve protector around the outside of the box. Inside the box were three main pieces; the center slatted section and then two end pieces. The end pieces were well wrapped but the wrapping was very thin. The main center section was not wrapped at all. There was nothing keeping the parts from rubbing against each other or moving around inside the box. There were scratches on center section and both ends as well as some dents in the front tubes. The coating doesn’t appear to have been applied evenly. The welds did appear well done and structurally it seems like it would be very solid. I think that if this were to be packaged differently it would keep the parts from bouncing around inside the box causing damage. I ordered a replacement and it arrived in worse condition. The box had clearly been opened before. Box had a repair from previous damage as well as a hole in the center of the box. Finish was scratched worse than the first one I received but no noticeable dents. One of the plastic couplers has a piece of plastic broken off and was inside the box. I really like the design of this rack and wish I could get one undamaged. I think I might give it a third chance and see if I get lucky. The rack is so good I wouldn’t even mind painting it myself if the only blemishes were to the finish. Big benefit to me is that this rack is made of aluminum so it isn’t going to rust like I have seen in reviews of other budget cargo baskets made of steel.

Super tough and really heavy
Is very nice and attractive to the eyes but may affect gas mileage.

Broken and little twisted
Received my REESE rooftop rack. About an hour or so ago, opened it up to begin assembly and found crack parts for the inserts and the rack was slightly twisted.

Damage and Disappointment
I spent several weeks looking for a roof rack for my subbie. I came across this rack and dug in on reviews and research. I finally ordered it and was so excited to install it today. The package arrived damage. The outer box was ripped and part of the rack was exposed. I could tell it had been dinged up but thought that, once installed, it would not be noticeable. An hour later, I admitted that because of the damage, this rack could not be assembled. Super frustrated and disappointed. Have contacted Reese and will update with their proposed resolution.

NOT 44 n X 38
This thing is built to withstand anything and it is HEAVY. The assembled size is MUCH larger than 44 in in length (56 In). Sent it back because it was too heavy and too long. Sez it is aluminum but I don't believe all of it is. Price is good and would buy if I had a Suburban or other big vehicle to put it on.

Nice quality cargo basket
Nice fit and finish. Welds look like quality work. Easy to mount, one of the best I have seen and it's aluminum so no rust.
