Review: Thunder in a coffee cup – best speaker in sub-5000 segment - REVIEW AFTER TWO WEEKS’ USE Sony caught thunder in a cup and called it SRS XB-100. This speaker is pretty loud and clear for its size, purpose and price. It is strictly meant for personal use or a small gathering of 6-8 people at best. Yet this little coffee mug outsmarts every other speaker below 5000 Rs. (Note – this speaker is not loud enough for a party. Those who feel that it is not loud enough for personal use may get an audiological evaluation to see if you have noise-induced hearing loss. Since hearing loss from loud noise (above 70 dB / 70% volume) is irreversible, try to reduce the loudness you listen to and follow 60:60 rule.) AUDIO QUALITY Vocals are loud, crisp and clear. Bass is good but not over-the-top. Good treble. From my experience, I would rate SRS XB-100 for various purposes as below. Tribit XsoundGo is not even as good as the good old Sony SRS-XB13 which got replaced by XB-100. To me, XB-100 sounded better than Tribit Stormbox Micro 2, and even Marshall Willen. XB-100 sounds way better even than Sony’s own 24W speaker SRS XE-200. Don’t fall for the gimmick of speakers with more wattage. 1 watt means that speaker can produce maximum 87dB sound within 1 m distance. Whereas as a 20W speaker could produce only 97dB sound within 1 m distance. For comparison, train horns are blown at 90dB. Any sound above 90dB could cause earache and permanently damage hearing. Nobody plays songs and videos at that sound. As the distance increases beyond 1 m, loudness also decreases. So unless you are not looking for a party speaker or something for an outdoor gathering, a speaker below 10W is sufficient. I am NOT talking here about how loud a speaker can get. There is no point in getting a speaker that is just earblastingly loud but lacks any clarity of sound. So yeah. I am completely satisfied with this one. Try it; you too might be.
Review: Satisfied. 5/5 sound tuning and bass - I ordered this speaker and received one first, but it has very low sound, and when I checked the reviews, all were mentioning it. But for me, the sound was too low; it can't even fill my small room. So I went ahead for a replacement on half mind as if it's the max sound and device isn't faulty it will be bad. But after the replacement, the new one is loud and perfect for my use, which is a small room for personal use. Turns out the first one was faulty. Completely satisfied with the new product.

Thanks for reaching out about the wattage of the XB13. Unfortunately, we do not disclose wattage and here is why.

Over the years we have seen posting such numbers results in a spec contest. Specs, and yes even watts can be measured in different ways. For example, receivers take a look at the wattage, then see a number of speakers driven, and distortion rates. All of which vary greatly. Also, watts do not tell you how efficient the drivers are, or any of the components that help the speaker sound great. Thus, telling an incomplete story.

Instead, we strive to make the best sounding speaker, that is rugged, water & dustproof, and has a long battery life. All of the things our customers have told us really matter to us. Thank you kindly for your understanding.

**Q: Can I leave it plugged in all of the time, or would this harm the battery?**
A: Hi CC, thank you for your inquiry! Yes, it is safe to leave it plugged in 24/7 because charging stops when the Li-ion battery is full. A topping charge is only applied when the battery voltage drops to a certain level.

To maximize battery life, however, it is better to not keep it plugged in. Environmental conditions, not cycling alone, govern the longevity of lithium-ion batteries.

Do not charge in conditions too cold or too warm (below 41F or above 95F)
When not in use, keep the device stored in a cool place, partially charged.
Operating condition between 30 and 80 percent maximizes battery life.
Lithium Ion batteries have no memory and are not degraded with partial discharges.
The worst situation is keeping a fully charged battery at elevated temperatures.

**Q: Is it better than the JBL?**
A: No. But it doesn't pay to compare anything in this price range to JBL, either. They used to be a mid-level car audio company that never found a foothold because they didn't stand out. Their contract with Ford allowed them to survive into the modern era, and they have definitely carved out their niche putting out tiny 24-30 watt speakers that are basically unmatched in the volume department. Whether you like the JBL sound profile or not it's subjective, but in this field, they are the measuring stick and very few come close, because most are 3W x 2, 5W x 2, 6W x 2. As the Sony rep here keeps saying they don't disclose their specs, but nowhere in this page does it explain what the 13 in it's name represents. I'd guess it's 13W, but I'd have to get one in hand and test it to know for sure. NOW In the last 40 years, they've gone from a mid-tier brand with price just shy of top shelf, to a brand that finally scratches the surface of audiophile quality drivers still at the just shy of elite price. So by sound profile yes, better than JBL, but you won't hear it over factory equipment, and you won't be hosting block parties, so again, I'll say NO.

Waste. Waste.. Waste.... I am extremely disappointed with this speaker. I bought it expecting powerful, clear sound, but the actual performance is far below expectations. The sound quality is weak, the bass is disappointing, and even at higher volumes the audio lacks clarity and depth. It simply doesn't deliver the premium experience that was advertised. For the price, I expected much better performance. This purchase has been a complete waste of money. I regret buying this speaker and would not recommend it to anyone looking for good sound quality. Unless the company improves the product significantly, I will avoid buying from this brand again.
