Convenient, well made, easy to clean
Like many other reviewers, I first saw one of these on Alton Brown's show and wanted one.Having a salt cellar like this is so much more convenient that using the box or bag the salt comes in.This is the nicest one I have been able to find.To summarise the good points others have made:- well made with a silicon gasket to keep contents dry- attached hinged lid flips open easily- easy to clean- stylish enough to leave on the counter or use on the table- good size: holds large quantity and easy to get your hand into the bowl for a pinch of saltSome people have complained about the hinged handle not being curved and being difficult to use with one hand (while grabbing salt with the other hand). I don't have this problem - I find it easy to lift and open the bowl with one hand while seasoning with the other. Perhaps if you have small hands or don't have a strong wrist it might be harder, as it can be a bit heavy when full.As for the spoon, yes it is too small to use for seasoning a pot of food when you are cooking, but that's not its purpose. A "serving" spoon like this is meant to be used to season individual servings of food, on your plate, at the table. I'd much rather use a measuring spoon or my hand anyway - and I would rather have a bowl like this with a tight seal to keep out moisture and dust than one with a slot in the lid to accommodate a tiny spoon.

Really cute, works as expected. Probably be happier if I stopped trying to pick it up from the glass bit.. which comes out of the silver holder.. siiigh

It does an okay job, but the separate bowl makes it awkward to use sometimes.
I had my salt in a bowl with a glass lid - finally dropped the lid a few weeks ago and shattered it. So I figured, I should find something with a hinged-lid to replace it.This does the job, in some ways. The bowl capacity is good, and the lid forms a good seal on it when closed. It's easy to open one-handed, and the lid will stand open so you can "Pinch" some salt out without having to hold the lid. That is all fine. The irritation is that the glass bowl, doesn't "Fasten" to the base at all - it just rests on it. Removable is good for cleaning, but not so good for using - so if you, say, try to pick this up by holding the bowl - well, it's not going to do well. Just a matter of adjusting to using the handle to pick it up, I suppose, but I would like to see the bowl fasten more securely rather than just resting in the base.Overall it's working, but if I find one with a better design I'll pick it up.

Lived up to all my expectations
I bought this because my previous cellar broke, and I had been eyeing this one for a while. It has lived up to all its descriptions. It is very easy to clean with the separate glass bowl, which also makes it easy to pour salt when I needed a fair amount. The rubber seal on the lid keeps the salt dry and the flip top, and really the entire metal base is very sturdy and solidly constructed. It is very easy to operate one handed, which is great when you are moving quickly through what is being cooked. I highly recommend this for anyone looking for a solid salt cellar, and honestly, this could be used for anything not just salt.

Perfect addition to the kitchen
I saw Alton Brown using this on "Good Eats" and even though it's fairly expensive, I decided to give it a try. Since I've been using kosher salt more and cooking more frequently, this salt cellar is probably one of the most-used items in my kitchen. I keep it on the counter next to the stove, so I don't have to reach into the cupboard when I need it. For dinners I can just bring it out and it looks great on the table. It is well-constructed and looks built to last. The glass dish slides right out for easy cleaning. The spoon it comes with is kind of a waste, since I just pinch it out with my fingers, and since there's no real place to store it (the lid won't close fully with the spoon in it, although that probably doesn't matter). Another great advantage of a salt cellar like this over a salt shaker, is that it allows you to visually see how much salt you're putting on your food so you don't overdue it. Given how many people are consuming too much sodium, this is a great way to cut back.

Easy to Use and Attractive in the Kitchen
Like many others, I purchased this salt server because I saw it on Alton Brown's "Good Eats." There are two main features that I love about this salt server:1) I really like that it has a lid - many other salt cellars have an open front which makes it easy to access the salt, but also easy for things to get into your salt. The lid is hinged so it's easy to open when you're in the middle of cooking, but it still keeps the salt safe!2) Glass bowl is easily removed for washing in the dishwasher. Every time the dish is empty (and it holds a good amount of salt, so it empties out at a nice pace) I give it a good wash. The server comes with a tiny little spoon that I have never used (I actually gave it to my mom to use for art projects) - I find that I like being able to grab it with my fingers or use a measuring spoon.

Great design and function
I tried to find a salt cellar after watching some Alton Brown "Good Eats". It was surprisingly difficult - most brick and mortar stores cell the ceramic version (doesn't have lid, looks like a bent PVC pipe) that were unweildily to use (despite having long thin fingers).I've had the one I bought from Amazon for more than 1 year now. I have lost that little metal spoon that came with it (I would probably say within the first week). Everything works like the day I got it. The silicon gasket seals the salt and even though it is placed near the sink and stove, the salt stays nicely dry. The finish (stainless steel maybe?) is holding up well, and cleans up well.My only complaint is that this product for some reason goes on and off availability - I tried to pick one up for my parent's house and it was not available.

Well made, looks nice
Like other reviewers, I’ve watched Alton Brown use this on Good Eats and really like it. I took it apart to throughly clean it before first use and found it to be quite a challenge to reinsert the silicone seal - then I noticed that AB must have removed his for his lid clanks shut. Eventually I got the silicone ring back into place. Looks nice on the table and I get a lot of compliments. It comes with one of the tiniest spoons imaginable. Came well packaged.
