Arrived next day and from opening the package to completing the fitting (shifting the old one anti clockwise a slight struggle) the problem was solved completely. You will need a pair of pliers and unscrew anti clockwise. **Q: can you adjust the length of this item with the grub screw on the side?** A: It could be adjusted but only to shorten it. The maximum length is needed to use in the basin. I found that my original chrome top fitted perfectly but the thread on the bottom was one ring less than my original brass fitting so the original bottom part wouldn’t screw on. It works as expected and the click mechanism is smooth. The only small issue is that the internal bolt seems a little shorter than my old one, so the plug doesn’t lift very high and the water doesn’t drain quite as quickly as it could.
