Ooops. Too easy to drift into bad habits!
Very interesting read. I knew some of this already, but, I did learn a lot of new information. The addiction graph was interesting if not a wee bit scary. Given that I make my own homebrew, after reading this it reinforces the fact that one needs to "manage" what one drinks and not gradually succumb to the "having a drink or two or three" habit that can easily form."Everything in moderation" as my father would say...

Dying for a drink
I read this in one morning, 3hours. It is not hard going.A good overview, stresses need for ownership/recognition of the problem, and that commonly, denial is the rule, at least initially. The book looks at the possible causes, and some of the ways to change dependence on alcohol and problem drinking. There is duplication of fig 9.1, an editing mistake?I have previously recommended this author's other books to people, I would be happy to do the same with this.

A useful first step to understanding the problem
This is good as a reference if you have a family member with a drink problem and need to understand the issues involved. It's a good first step to understanding but of course the only person that can solve a drinking problem is the drinker. AA is a source of help for the drinker and Al-Anon for family members.

Much good advice
A good quick read, all in one evening. Some good strategies. Does spend rather too much time early on speculating on the causes for alcoholism via some now outdated psychology, which risks generalising or oversimplifying them. Besides this, there's a lot of pragmatic and common sense solutions.

Excellent, informative
An excellent book on problem drinking. The author's experience is told in a down-to-earth, friendly and almost conversational way. As his other book on depression, well worth reading if you or someone you know suffers from this.

so very disappointed.
Beware, I thought I was purchasing the 2016 2nd edition, which I had entered into 'search, but this is the old 2012 edition, so very disappointed.

Another great book from this author
Tim Cantopher's little books are the best in their field. The one on Depression should be read by all who suffer from it or love someone who suffers from it.

A brilliant book from a brilliant psychiatrist
A brilliant book from a brilliant psychiatrist. If reading and absorbing what is written in this book doesn't help reduce/stop drinking too much alcohol then quite frankly, nothing will. Tim Cantopher is a genius.
