Better than I expected
I bought this on impulse but it is much better than I expected. Before I used the 'thousand cuts;' method with my kitchen knife This device tenderisesAND spreads excalope-wise at the same time. Heartily recommended

Love me tender...
Whenever I make pork schnitzels I look forward to the inevitable "beating my meat" jokes, for me those jocular remarks are as important as the dish itself now. This hammer is okay at meat flattening but not the best, but it is superb for tenderising requiring the "pointy" bits. For steaks this is brilliant, the heft means that you don't really need to apply much pressure - just lift and let it fall. Honestly for steaks this is a superb tenderiser and I cannot fault it.As a meat flattener is is okay but not great, I have a rounded flattener and that works well. For a flattener you don't really want sharp corners as these can catch the meat and hit right through it - it does the job but I have to be careful. It washes easy enough and feels solid, it simply goes in the drawer after use and sits ready for another session of meat beating. In a nutshell: For steaks this is absolutely perfect, for flattening meat this is okay but not the best solution. But if it's mainly steak you have then this is great to have in the drawer as it's just one utensil to do a few different jobs.

NOT stainless steel!
Had this been made of stainless steel, as described, it would have represented value for money. However, it emerged from the dishwasher tarnished, which suggests it's more likely made of an alloy.
