A captivating read.
I really enjoyed this book with its captivating storyline and the fascinating insight it allows behind the closed doors of the therapy room. Like any good novel, it’s the characters that really engaged with me, created intrigue and complemented the plot so well. I think readers will especially relate to the main character, Maggie, as she faces her own inner struggles whilst dealing with some very challenging clients. Without giving too much away, I particularly liked the way the story asks the reader to question the ambiguity of ‘truth’. Highly recommended.

Entertaining, insightful, thought provoking
Jenner’s first book is a thought-provoking masterpiece. You don’t have to be interested in talking therapies to enjoy the plot. But you’ll learn lots about counselling through this read. It left me wanting more. The plot touches on some deeply emotional topics combined with an air of suspense. I hope for a sequel. I’m now a Jenner fan!

An essential read for student and qualified counsellors
What a book! I absolutely loved this book. Many aha moments, many years shed. Some parts made me reflect deeply on memories I'd pushed down. It's a great book, I couldn't get enough. As a student counsellor I've learned a lot from this. I've seen the pitfalls and rising moments. I've highlighted so many parts that my copy is a mass of tabs. It's great, easy to read and understand and you really feel as if you are in the room with Maggie and her clients. Fully recommend, but have tissues to hand because it has some very raw emotional moments. Hope there is another book because I learned alot from this one.

Amazing read!
I read this book in 2 days I couldn’t put it down! It was fabulously written and as a trainee counsellor I found it so interesting to read from the counsellor’s perspective, it really played with my emotions! Some parts had me in tears and I was gutted when I had completed it, I really hope the author writes more because it would be such a shame and a waste of amazing talent otherwise!!

Great characters. Great plot lines. Couldn’t put my book down finished in a weekend. Great debut book from LJ… ready for the next…

Writing feels immature
The writing feels a bit immature (excessive use of !) and, so far, the story cliche. The links to counselling theory feel a bit forced, oversimplified and unrealistic
