Yes, both the backrest and armrests are removable. And I decided to take off the armrest since I'm a bit wider the arms would not be comfortable for me. It fully fits the bill in what I was looking for in a shower chair.

Q: What id the max weight limit of this chair?

I like the cross bars to add safety and strength.I am a 350+ gal & the chair, with cross bars, the box says will hold up to 500 lbs. It does feel sturdy.
