PLA can be composted at commercial facilities, unlike ABS which is derived from Fossil fuels. PLA is therefore a more earth friendly plastic. It is more rigid than ABS, and in general the printed objects will have a more glossy look and feel compared to ABS. PLA has a lower melting temperature compared to ABS. As a 3D printing material, PLA has significantly less warping than ABS. Additionally, a heated bed is not required to print it. PLA generally enjoys sharper details and corners compared to ABS without the risk of cracking or warping. PLA can also be printed at higher throughput plastic filament adheres well to acrylic and to Blue painters tape. PLA also adheres well to glass, with a coating of Aqua net extra Super hold hairspray. Prints with a large bottom layer may have a tendency to curl. To prevent curling, use rafts. Store PLA plastic filament in a cool, dry place as it can absorb moisture from the air and long-term exposure to humidity can compromise filament quality and performance.
