GE Sentrol 1125W-N 3/8" Flush Mini Magnetic Door/Window Contact with Wire Leads, Wide Gap, White

Q: I want the circuit to close, alarm ring upon the door opening. Is this (NO) Normally Open? I don't want to use a relay, which Magnet recessed switch do you suggest?

I purchased the GE Sentrol 1125W-N 3/8", and I am happy with them. Very easy to install. Yes, the switch is normally open. The circuit closes when the door/window is shut and the magnet in the door/window causes the circuit in the switch to close.

Q: Will it work in a metal frame and door

I have used these in metal doors and frames, you'll have to be able to drill the same holes.

Q: Are all switches designed to be operated on a low voltage system

This switch, the GE Sentrol 1125W-N 3/8, is specified by the manufacturer to operate with a maximum of 100 volts, 0.5 amps, and 7.5 watts. Most alarm systems in the US are low-voltage system, usually 12 volts, because low-voltage, low-power systems are inherently safer.In general, "all switches" are not designed to be operated only on low-voltage systems. Most regular electrical switches are designed to be operated on household voltages, 120 volts in the US, 240 volts in much of Europe.

Q: Has anyone used these for windows? How do they compare to surface contacts for windows? Thanks!

Surface contacts for windows are installed at the surface. These contacts can be embedded in the window frame, allowing a more hidden install. They both work the same way. The surface mount contacts can have more sensitivity versus the flush mount. I have the flush mount because the installer wanted to keep the wires hidden.
