The upward position helps the milk to go down and I feel that it helps prevent air going in when she eats, so this is good for babies who tend to have reflux or spit up a lot. (We still have to pick her up to burp her though.) We've already washed the cover several times due to spit up and other accidents. I was able to put it in the dryer and it came out fine. Easy to put back on the chair and looking fresh again. I'm so glad we bought this and I highly recommend it as an essential purchase with the Bugaboo Giraffe high chair.
