Living with Fibromyalgia: New Edition
S**N
Gives us Fibromyalgia sufferer’s help and hope :)
First things first, there isn’t a magic cure for Fibromyalgia…..some people were disappointed in the book because it doesn’t offer a “cure” ….what it does do however is give loads of helpful support and advice about what is a very tricky condition to contend with. I have other conditions as well and I can say it has made me not “worry” anymore about the fibromyalgia aspect….so that is a super outcome I feel! There is a lot of aching and brain-fog associated with Fibromyalgia but the two things the book points out is it doesn’t harm the body or shorten one’s life. I’m not a Dr obviously but that’s something that comes across in the book and it gives lots of other useful information and also helpful examples of how it affects not only the person with the condition but also your wife/family (I’m a Man with this condition) it’s sooooooo helpful as you can feel like you are going mad! Especially when like myself you have always been so independent and Run a business almost your whole working life….to then hit 40 and have to give it all up is so hard…..this book got me through it!!! I’m not back to my business sadly but I am completely calm about it all and without any prescription tablets Whatsoever! :)

very good
For those new to the world of fibromyalgia, this is a very useful book. I've lived with the condition for nearly 20 years but still learned some new things from the book.

very helpful self-help book
fibromyalgia s a very painful and debilitating condition which cannot be cured, so anything that can be useful in a self-help way is worth a try. I bought this book because I am at my wits end with pain from this condition. There are drawbacks though. A lot of the information you can pick up from the Internet anyway. Also the author advocates 'gentle' exercise. I am not so sure it is wise to go along this path. I certainly haven't taken this advice. I Know from bitter experience that any kind of exercise can put you in a relapse lasting months! I tried gentle swimming in March and a week later I relapsed worse than ever in 25 years and I am still in it now (July 2013). The book does give some good tips but don't do anything it says unless you are absolutely certain you won't cause your self more problems.

... this book does not produce miracles or a cure like other readers seem to think it should
Before reading the negative reviews on this book and author bear in mind that this book does not produce miracles or a cure like other readers seem to think it should. If you or someone you know has fibromyalgia and done your homework you’ll know there is not cure but you can put stuff in place to help manage the condition. People have criticised this book because it hasn’t given them an answer how to cure Fibromyalgia! The first step to take (which isn’t easy) is to accept you have Fibromyalgia. No book can do this for you. You have to help yourself no one else can do it for you but seeing a councillor or therapist can help direct you. It’s a huge step to take to except that you have the condition and you have to be prepared to make changes to your life. Many people will say that Fibromyalgia has ruined their lives. I agree at first it feels like this but it only ruins your life it you let it. So when buying any book on Fibromyalgia or Chronic fatigue syndrome you must understand that they are guidance on how to help yourself manage your condition.I have read many books on Fibromyalgia any many medical papers. If you don’t have a medical background or know medical terminology then you should avoid some books out there because they may only confuse you more. But this book gives you a balance of the medical side put into plain English but with much guidance which we all can relate to. Fibromyalgia is different for every patient but the story is very much always the same. Reading the authors story you will relate yourself to many of the details and experience she describes. She is not medically trained but this is stated at the beginning of the book, so anyone who has commented on this should actually read the whole book before voicing their opinion!I really do love this book, I just wish I had read it a bit sooner to give me further guidance earlier on in my journey.I wish everyone the best for their journey. Stay strong, hold that head high and always remember you’re in control xxx

A very helpful reference book
This is a very useful and helpful book for Fibromyalgia sufferers. It is full of down to earth and common sense advice from someone managing the condition herself. The book is well written and is easy to read and understand. It is very comprehensive and covers many different aspects of living with this painful and debilitating condition and answers many of the common questions. Contains advice on diet, medications, therapies and helpful physical exercises. I was lent a copy of this book by a fellow sufferer and found it so helpful that I've bought my own copy.

An excellent book
I bought this book in the hope it would help me explain the difficulty of living with fibromyalgia to my family and friends. It certainly did just that. The book tells the problems we face on a daily basis. What we have to contend with when trying to explain to the people in power, when we try to claim a bit of help. The book tells it as it is. I would recommend this book to anyone who is either suffering with fibromyalgia or has a family member or friend that does.

Wonderful FM book!!!
I bought both the book (mostly for the detailed exercise instructions and nutritional info) and the audio book. I loved it!!! It explained FM in a lot of detail and gave so much support and credibility to how I feel and what FM has done to my life. My husband is now listening to the audio book to and from work. That has opened up several conversations between us that have felt VERY good. I feel he is getting such a better understanding of me with FM. I can't recommend this book highly enough!
