Just used this product for the first time today. The smell is absolutely horrid and definitely not great for people affected by strong smells or asthma — I am both of these and struggled to get through my shower and needed to use my inhaler afterwards. HOWEVER. THIS NASTY STUFF WORKS! I powered through my shower and was actually so impressed when I dried off and checked my scalp. The Psoriasis flakes and redness were totally subdued and any flakes that remained were just sloughing off in my hair — the most troublesome spots were completely clear and the major redness I had was a dull red, almost pink. I’m so relieved. After reading about usage online it does say it’s better used specifically targeting the scalp and trying to minimize how much gets in your actual hair which is definitely easier said than done if you have longer hair. I used Native conditioner afterwards which smells great and unfortunately that didn’t help the smell at all. So while I’m definitely walking around with an invisible gas cloud, it’s a step in the right direction. If you’ve read this far… don’t give up, you will find a product that works for you, even if it smells like gasoline.

I just started using it. I usually use the Neutrogena Tgel but figured I'd give this a shot. The consistency is a bit more watery than your typical shampoo but it suds up really well. It looks like it's full of plenty of tar by the look of it. It's a dark brown with almost a greenish hue. It also SMELLS like it too. I mean.... wow. The stinky stank of this shampoo is stroooooong. My girl said the bathroom smelled like moth balls. So I guess if you live in an area with lots of moths you could kill two birds with one stone. Haven't used it long enough to report on the affects to my dandruff. I'm planning to use this as a pre-wash and use something with a less aggressive whiff after. Update: this stuff works. It absolutely obliterated my dandruff. Very strong. Updating my rating from 3 to 4 stars because of it.

I'm 99% sure all the positive reviews are for the original formula- don't buy the new stuff. It's worthless. After years of painful itching and cracking on my scalp and embarrassing scaling I tried this shampoo. It smelled like dog shampoo but it was instant relief and within a week I had the healthiest scalp I had ever had. For a year I lived a normal life without my scalp being a constant painful issue. CUE THE FORMULA CHANGE THAT RUINED MY LIFE. They changed it. It smells nice now but DOESN'T WORK. Cheap Head and Shoulders gives more relief at this point. I used the new formula for over a month hoping I just needed to wait for it to work all while my scalp was getting worse and worse. It's cracked, flaking, itching, weeping and bleeding again. I'll never use this formula/brand again and instead I'll be hunting for some alternative. No other coal tar shampoo has worked like the original formula did though. So I'm not optimistic. I wish they had kept the OG stinky formula for those of us who needed it. I'm miserable now.

This shampoo is the ONLY product to give my scalp relief from flakes and itchiness. I’ve tried products with zinc pyrithione, salicylic acid, ketoconazole, and selenium sulfide. I’ve tried medicated creams, oils, sprays, shampoos and conditioners. Nothing has given me relief until now. It does not smell good at all. But the trade off is well worth it.

Seems to do the job, BUT.... So watery/hard to control and THE SMELL!! It's not nice. Doesn't seem to linger long but out of the tube....... Decent product but not sure why they can't get the consistency better and/or add some fragrance.....

If you have psoriasis or seborrheic dermatitis, this is one of the best that I have found to help stop the itching and flaking

This stuff works! It smells like literal ASSphalt and the smell unfortunately takes days to leave my hair, even after washing. But this shampoo put in work and dissolved my scales in 5ish minutes. I've added it to my routine, usually use it every few weeks for buildup, and a salicylic shampoo once a week for maintenance. Seems to be working so far!
