just be careful when mounting one of those short blades from a thumb plane. unless you figure out a way to extend the reach of the blade (like with a wooden pocket sandwich of some kind) you'll end up beveling the aluminum honing tool itself by accident.

So here's the thing, I bought this honing guide to put an edge on my wood chisels and it works perfectly. Over time, the edges have become dinged and dull. After attaching the guide to your chisel (easy to do, very intuitive) move it over the provided honing board and it works perfect. It produces a very defined edge that is square to the side of the chisel blade. I generally matched the original grind of the chisel as I didn’t see a need to reinvent the wheel. My only issue was the honing board was pretty well burnt out after about two plane blades and five chisels. Maybe I got a bad board, I don’t know. Either way the honing guide is great while the board is lackluster. With a better board, it would have been an easy 5 stars but as it is, it only gets 4. ☹️

Easy to use, precise, holding up rather well so far. If I ever have to replace it, it will hopefully be with the same brand/style.The wide roller does a great job at helping ensure a flat hold when sharpening plane blades.Not sure if it would actually work with chisels, have not tried, but it's ok, I free hand chisels any way.This item has now seen miles of usage, as I've had to re-establish bevels on a few old blades with nicks and chips, so far the wheel shows no sign of looseness or any above average wear, unlike my other guides.

As expected, the product arrived on time, in great condition and well packaged. I used it today for the first time on three Stanley chisels from one of the big box stores. They have never been sharpened before so this was a bit of a challenge with sap, dirt and chips out of the cutting edge on each of the 1/2', 3/4', 1' blades. I did 40 passes on 1/2 the stone due to the projection of the blade from the holder, then rotated the stone and did another 40 passes. I hope this produces even wear on the diamond surface. Repeated this three times on each of the surfaces and ended with a gleaming, even, sharp, clean edge. Used them chisel out a small surface for a utility hinge on a simple home made box. Lovely outcome. I purchased this specific item because of a review of a different guide by another writer who noticed that the his roller did not spin and developed a flat spot on first use. this holder appears to have different type of bearing. it rotates smoothly and cleans easily. It may not be stainless steel and it may not have all the other bells and whistles. I am a home hobbyist, DIY user. My needs are quite different from a professional user. Yes I would by again.

The media could not be loaded. So easy to use. Wider roller makes for very accurate passes. Instructions are minuscule, but it’s so self explanatory you probably won’t need them. Wish I’d bought this years ago. As per title, this did not work with my spokeshave blade, which is a bummer.

The jig works good enough to hone your chisels and planes, but its jaws are a little off and it’s tricky to get the blade edge square on the stone. Set screw needs tightening before attempting to close jaws onto chisel prior to use.

Really sharp chisels are just what you need for woodworking but I have ruined way too many on a bench grinder. This gives razor sharp chisels in no time with no chance of over-heating and ruining the temper of the steel. Easy to use with great instructions.

La usé y corrigió el bisel erróneo que dejaba mi antigua guía de afilado que tenía 15 años de uso 😆 hablando en serio es muy buena guía se nota desde un principio que este diseño es favorable para realizar biseles agudos y de calidad. Excepto porque aún no sé cuanto durará de entrada la recomiendo altamente y en espera que mi reseña sincera sirva a otros compradores . Una excelente guía de afilado con un diseño bien pensado!!!
