The Roots of Rock Drumming: Interviews With the Drummers Who Shaped Rock 'n' Roll Music

I've learned about the roots of drumming from gospel all the way through modern rock and the drummers that created the many sounds I grew up with in the 50's and 60's This is a must book for drummers.

Only three British drummers were mentioned in this book. The writers could of researched the British drummers in more depth. Tony Meehan was one of the first original creative musicians to influence the British rock scene.Many drummers copied his style before Brian Bennett came along. (Having said that I think Brian was the tops) Frank Farley had a unique powerful style with Johnny Kidd and the Pirates.Bobby Elliott with the Hlollies was onother who lead the way playing rhythms that no one seemed to play previously.Many drummers copied Ringo in the early 60`s.The list is endless.I know that the American influence was certainly first in the Rock and roll drumming but some of the British drummers picked up on it and made a significant contribution as it developed from then onwards. Apart from my observations above I am still glad that I purchased this book. M J W

Great book for anyone who wants to know more about Rock music and personalities.Recommended.

It’s a great book and will be giving to a family member as a gift. I paid full price so I expected a book in brand new condition, but it’s clearly used / a little beat up, so I’m disappointed for sure 🙁

A must read for any serious drummer or student of music history. I consider myself a drum history geek, but was surprised by how many inside details I learned about rock and roll and the drumming that drove it.

This was bought as a Christmas gift but the cover was scuffed up. It was too late to get a replacement so I had to give it and was embarrassed.

Great info. In depth interviews from the guys that really started rock n roll. Plus the DVD with with their intervies. This is a must have for any serious drummer.

A must for any drummer who is interested in the history behind the role drummers have played in the history of popular music. Highly reccomend.

This book is good, but there are some notable rock drummers who did not contribute to this collection.
