1 of my fav Sonics of the decade
Brilliant game! Can be a little tricky but certainly not as hard as the classics. I particularly liked this 1 as it's the classic side scrolling Sonic you know and love but with brand new visuals. Personally prefer this modern look for a modern sonic to the pixel retro look of Mania (another modern sonic game) Highly recommend to old and new fans of the series

Fantastic Sonic game!
Bought for my son, but has been fun for the whole family! Brilliant levels and really enjoyable gameplay. Really recommend for your family if you love classic Sonicgames!

It walks like a hedgehog, quacks like a hedgehog - but it's not quite Sonic
The amount of good will towards this game from the fanbase was phenomenal. Frontiers recently proved that Sonic could be done well (enough) in 3D yet Mania from a few years back showed that 2D was the way Sonic was always meant to be. So how about a 2D Sonic game in a 3D engine? It's alright. Unfortunately - this game is a proper sine wave of highs and lows. Given what was actually released - to be frank - I think it needed a higher budget. Visually - the main character designs are excellent and really well animated - but the 'Badniks' look like hi-res versions of their original Mega Drive counterparts lacking detail and awkwardly animated. It's like the trainees were given that job. World design is off too - with many of the levels looking bland and generic. The initial stage - Bridge Island - is a stand out thanks mainly to a Green Hill Zone vibe. Sonic Colors/Ultimate showed that 2D in a 3D engine could work and at speed. That's been ignored - here the camera is fixed to give a sort of parallax effect. This give an odd disconnect between your character and the foreground items you interact with (platforms, pipes etc.). It's no Sonic 4 thankfully - but it does feel a little cheap. Another cut corner is the lack of voice acting. Don't get me wrong - I can definitely live without it. But when there's cutscenes with characters talking - this again feels like they ran out of budget. Add in awkward bonus stages (including the Sonic 1 bonus stage - that's still done better in Sonic 1), controls that require you to use the analogue sticks in certain situations, the lack of sense of speed, dull boss fights...it's just not fun. But that might just be an old Sonic fan talking. Put a nipper in front of this who has only seen the movies - I'm sure they'll have a blast.

Misleading article name
The name of the product is misleading and fake, it says “includes comic skins” but didn’t actually have them in the case when my delivery came. Disappointed.
