Large stainless steel pot with handles is awesome!
My previous insta pot was a 6qt non-stick pot. I really enjoyed that pot. But many times I wished it was a little bigger. And getting the pot out of the unit was a bit dicy, you have to use pot holders for the heat and it could slip out of your hands. However I also became concerned about the non-stick coating on the pot. I had put a couple of scratches on the bottom so I was concerned about the coating. Enter this new pot. Very nice 8 qt size. I actually thought 8 qt might be too big but on my first use I almost filled it up, so it's not too big. The stainless steal pot is awesome and the handles make it very easy to lift out(without pot holders) and I dont feel like it's going to slip out of my hands. First use was a stew and it came out great. I did wash it in the dishwasher before use. I found the silicon seal to be hard to put back onto the lid, I had to use a little water as a 'lubricant' to get it to slip back into place. There are LOTS of options on this thing.....it took me a couple minutes just to pick one for the stew and I finally picked the 'slow cook' option which took six hours....but it was worth the wait....the meat was very tender and the potatoes and carrots were just right, not too soft and not too hard......by the way, if you shop Walmart, the organic carrots taste way better than the regular carrots......I just buy a bag of organic petite and dump them in....this time I also added a bag of frozen mushrooms and that was great.....too many times I buy fresh mushrooms and forget to use them within a day or two and have to chuck them. 10/17/25 update Still loving this pot....the only issue I have is the silicone pressure ring can be difficult to put back in place. To show how large it is, just now I put in a whole 3 lb bag of potatoes, a whole chopped up celery bunch, a large onion, 8 oz of fresh mushrooms, bag of carrots, 64oz of chicken stock and about 2 lbs of chicken......I put it on an option for 6 hours of 'slow cook'......the slow cook option is pretty cool.....

Worth the extra money over the less expensive Instant Pots
My first IP started having some display issues after about 5 years, so I decided to replace it since I use it just about every weekend. The replacement arrived with a dent in the side, and I worked with Amazon and received a partial refund, but it never seemed to cook well. I was constantly getting a burn notice, and I was never comfortable with the dented outer casing, so I decided to replace it again after about 1 year. I decided to not buy a less expensive model this time and spent the extra money on the Instant Pot Pro. So glad I did! The differences are very noticeable and appreciated. The slots to hold the lids are positioned at 10 and 2, which makes it much easier to work with than on the lower cost models where it is at 9 and 3. The display is much more informative, and I really love having more control over the heat when sauteing. The handles on the inner pot are a great addition. The inner pot stays level and doesn’t move around when you’re stirring so it keeps the heat even while sauteing. Also, it is easier to take in and out of the outer shell. Don’t get me wrong, the lower cost models like the DUO or the Rio are good machines. The Instant Pot Pro is just a much better device. I cooked with it last night for the first time and couldn’t believe it was possible to be MORE impressed with the Instant Pot. If you’re shopping for one and not sure which one to choose, the lower cost models are good, but the Pro is significantly better imo.

Wider is better
I recently upgraded my old pressure cooker to the Instant Pot, and I’m thrilled with the improvements. The most noticeable difference is the wider cooking area, which makes sauteing, stirring, and lifting the pot out much easier compared to my previous model. In terms of cooking efficiency, the Instant Pot has been a game-changer. The display clearly shows the current stage of the cooking process (preheating, cooking, releasing), eliminating any guesswork. Additionally, the pressure release is significantly quieter and less messy than the older units I’ve used, which is a major upgrade that I didn’t anticipate. Cleaning up is also a breeze. The stainless steel exterior makes it easy to wash, and I appreciate not having to keep extra pans around since most tasks can be completed in one pot. However, there’s a minor downside: the Instant Pot takes up some counter or cabinet space, and there’s a slight learning curve if you’re new to the Instant Pot menus. But after a few uses, it becomes intuitive, and the time and effort saved are well worth it. Overall, I’m incredibly happy with my purchase and highly recommend the Instant Pot to anyone looking for faster and easier home-cooked meals.

Excellent Multi-Cooker – A Must-Have!
I absolutely love this Instant Pot! It’s incredibly easy to use and has made cooking so much faster and more convenient. The food comes out delicious every time, whether I’m making rice, soups, chicken, or even yogurt. It heats evenly, saves time, and the quality is excellent. The large capacity is perfect for meal prep or family dinners. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a reliable and versatile kitchen appliance!

Why Don't You Have One Already?!
I upgraded from Instapot Duo to the Pro. The fact the Instapot Pro has handles makes a world of different. On the Duo it is was a pain pulling the pot out and straining it while hot. On top of that it inner-pot of this "Pro" has a heavy bottom making a great is steel pot, so it just work like a normal pot on the stove top giving me the options in using either the electrical device or on the stove top. When in doubt get the 6 qt, is fits most things for a 1-4 person household (I'd argue even 6). Might not hold a Large whole chicken, but I manage by being able to breakdown a whole chicken (it isn't hard, just watch a video) I cook professionally. But at home the Instapot is the best appliance I've gotten. I make Bean from dried at a fraction of the time, amazing quality fresh stock that doesn't require me to to wait 8 hours on a stove top, it takes the place of crockpot, rice cooker (*), and a normal pot. Stews, Gumbo, Chili, and Braises are done greatly when you are pinch for time making what would normally for 5 hour is only an hour or two and near same quality. Which has saved me during a dinner party where my sous dropped braised short ribs 2 hours before plating. It is an investment but if you eat (or plan to eat) legumes/beans, and you use stock/broth occasionally or consistently in your diet. This will save you some money and time while giving you a better product than store-bought stock/broth and canned beans. Both the beans and stock you make freeze well, and cooked frozen bean reheat/thaw fast. And if you freeze veggie scrap (like onion skin, carrot/parsnip peel, celery tops and bottoms) as well and save bones from you chicken (rotisserie, chicken thigns, or whole chicken) you can make stock with all the stuff you were going to throw way anyway. Better than store bought while also being basically free. Lastly it is great for meal prep and you can set it to have your ingredients in it before leaving to work and being done by the time you get home from work. If you cook consistently for yourself and/or for loved ones, or want to cook more at home. An Instapot makes thing easy at a press of a button, and the Pro has very convent features (like HANDLES I cant praise enough!) that make life much more easy. When you get one you will ask also ask "Why didn't I get one sooner?". I work late nights and early morning, this gives me more time and saves me from eating out. ~*I've mentioned "rice cooker" and I want to expand on this.~ The Instapot works great as a rice cooker but compared to an actual rice cooker, it is a little slower to cook (20min vs 30-35min) and the rice (especially short-grain/sushi rice) builds starch and stick to the stainless steel pot, requiring a slight bit more finesse to clean. I personally eat rice (and grains) consistently and i like saving 10-15min of what little time I have at home, so i have both a cheap rice cooker and instapot. However if you want to minimize your appliances (i.e. have less "appliance clutter") and need to conserve space in your kitchen, then having just an Instapot will work well enough and do every thing a rice cooker can, plus much MUCH more.

If you wish your IP was wider and spits less on pressure release - this is for you!
I’m a long time Instant Pot user and have bought many upgrades over the years. I was attracted to this new RIO Wide because, you guessed it, it’s wide. I do a lot of sautéing as well as cooking larger bone in chicken breasts, which aren’t as convenient in the standard narrow tall 6 qt IP. I also wanted to steam larger vegetables like 5-8 ears of corn on the cob. For the functional bits - it surpassed my expectations. I cook 5 ears of corn on the cob regularly now in this guy. They are very easy to get out with tongs with the lower height of the device. The settings are a perfect variety and the controls are easy to read and configure. I’ve cooked a half chicken in there after browning it first with the wide cooking surface. It turned out tender and delicious. The chimes at ends of cycles are melodious and make me smile - not the harsh beeping of older models. Steam release is exceptional - both super quiet and without wet spitting that you can get with older IPs. That alone has made it my go to IP. It is larger, so if you want to store it, you will need some space for that. I just leave mine on the kitchen island because I use it all the time. The lid is wide, so you can’t slot it into those IP slots that hold the lid on smaller models. This just means you need to be careful to drain any liquid caught in the lid into the pot when you remove it so you don’t drip it across your counter/electronics. Because of the width, the steam trivet is very easy to remove when it is hot. That’s something I struggled with a bit on my older, narrow IP. Stir fries are a dream to cook in this cooker. It feels very safe from steam burns due to the backward facing steam vent and the steam release buttons location far in front of that vent. I’ve put the lid in the dishwasher, which held up well. But mostly I clean stuck on food bits with some Lemi Shine citric acid on high pressure for 3 minutes and a soak in that overnight. That leaves the pan looking brand new as you can see in the photo. If you were debating whether you needed this IP in your collection, I can assure you that you do.

BUYER BEWARE..SLOW COOK DOESN'T WORK...ZERO CUSTOMER SERVICE
I we'll start this by saying if I could give this product zero stars or negative stars, I would. Absolutely. I have tried to order this product FOUR times. Amazon will not let me individually review this item for each one of those purchases, although they are different experiences. The first time Amazon sent me a defective product with a broken lid and a damaged body (I knew that I was purchasing it from the Amazon sell, but I had no idea it was gonna be unusable) My second order was with a Christmas gift card for a brand new product. I purchased the 8 qt "pro" as an upgrade from my current duo nova instant pot. I have enjoyed that product, although I do get an error code fairly frequently stating that the pot is the wrong size for the base… Instant pot told me that there is no fix for this I just need to order a brand new pot which I refuse to do so I fidget with it and it will work. Anyway, the brand new 8 quart would not come up to temperature on the slow cook function. I let it sit for four hours and it was still preheating and the food inside was raw. I had to take the food out and cook it in the oven. I sent the pot back The third time I ordered a 6 quart instant pot pro which looked beautiful, but had the exact same problem. There was also a problem getting the lid to come off the pot I had to take a butter knife and push down the steam release so that the lid would release and allow me to remove it even when I was not using the pressure cook mode. The slow Cook function absolutely would not preheat I did an experiment by putting water in the pot and turning it on for eight hours in the morning with no food in it and it never came up to temperature. Seven hours later it was still blinking preheat and the water inside was like 150°F. I contacted instant pot and they wanted me to do this almost tremendous task of taking a video showing the problem taking several photographs explaining the context of the problem blah blah blah blah. I said no I am just going to send it back until I can get one that actually works. That brings me to my fourth and final order of the instant pot Pro 6 qt. I know that it will shock you, but I had the exact same problem. I could not believe it. I looked it up online (as I should have done in the first place)and found that this is a common problem with this product. It just will not come up to heat on slow cook. One YouTube video said that it takes hours for this particular model to come up to temperature and you will need to have an instant thermometer handy so that you can check your food every few hours to ensure that it's actually cooking appropriately. I don't know about you, but when I slow cook food it is my expectation that that food is going to cook, even if I am out working in my garden or running a quick errand to the store. Why would I be on standby for eight hours when I can probably cook it in the oven in one or two and have a somewhat consistent result? Well, I did contact instant pot (again) and they required me to send photographs, and an explanation, and the whole rigmarole, which I did this time only to get a reply just a couple hours later where I was told the same thing : if you were going to cook something on slow cook it can take up to four hours to preheat on a longer cook. My reply back to instant pot was that several sites on the Internet know that there is a problem with the instant pot pro in that the slow Cook function does not work correctly. The Internet knows that this is a flaw. Amazon is becoming aware that this is a flaw. And I believe that instant pot knows that this is a flaw yet they refuse to either correct the problem or honor their warranty. I am sad to say that I will never buy another instant pot product after the runaround that I was given by this company, who refused to assist me, will not honor the warranty, made excuses for a faulty product, and ultimately just basically said if you don't like it go return it (literally). So I am. GOOD NEWS-- UPS will pick it up for free.

No PRO but good enough
I think Instant Pot are going backwards. I bought the original (or an early model) back when they became the 'thing' a few years ago. It worked great for many years. Eventually though the pressure seal wouldn't hold so it was time to 'upgrade'. I got this version thinking it would be better, it is labelled 'PRO' after all. The reality is it's a step backwards in many ways. The good: I like the look, it certainly looks PRO and the steam release guard (aka a cap) and the switch to release the steam are welcomed additions. The handles are great and definitely help when you're wanting to lift out a pot full of boiling hot chicken stock. The display works well and there are other features like a beep reminder incase you missed the original beep when the cooking finished. I also love the ability to save favourites, extremely useful especially when considering one of the Pro's flaws. The bad: The interface of this is a big step back from the previous generation Instant Pot that this replaced. It feels like the mini computer inside this struggles to keep up with what you're asking it to do, especially when it comes to setting a time. The lag of the timer as you turn the dial is awful. And as you're adjusting the timer there is a constant beeping sound which is just really annoying. You can actually turn off the sound but that also stops all the useful notifications like when your food is cooked so there's not really a good solutions here (besides being able to set a common time / pressure combo as a favourite which helps). They also changed the Yoghurt setting so my previous sweet spot of 9 1/2 hours like the older model no loner worked. With this Pro model it was taking 16+ hours to make a quite awful yoghurt. After a little research I found out the temperature of its default setting is 42° which is too low. I bumped it up to around 45° and now I get my great yoghurt in 9 1/2 hours again. I have no idea why they changed this but fortunately I have saved this setting as another favourite and no longer use their setting. Overall, besides those quirks, the Instant Pot Pro does all the things you would expect from an Instant Pot. The handles are very useful and I can't imagine going back to the handle-less pots. The interface is tolerable but should be better at this price point. And the changed cooking programs can be avoided by saving your preferred versions (though there are only 5 favourite slots).

A SOLID PURCHASE
After my previous Instantpot stopped working one day. It was time for a new one. This one I chose as it had sous vide function. I have used this function twice now. I am quite impressed with it I must say. This Instantpot has ten functions. It is bigger than my precious one at 8qt. While I don’t cook for many I do not regret choosing the bigger version. What I enjoy about this particular Instantpot is the following: -The steam release is so much more easy to use. Just slide down to open and slide up to close. -The stainless steel liner with handles is the best update to this device ever. Silicone handles make it so easy to remove a scorching hot pot. -As with my previous pot this one has the dial to adjust time, temp and such. So easy and handy. -the cord is attached rather than having to plug it in the pot each time. As of yet I haven’t use this Instantpot for anything else. I can’t imagine it be any less than my other Pot. One thing I can think of that I’m not so impressed with: -There is a small slot to slide one thickness of your cord in the back, to hold it. It is fairly useless as being able to hold more cord would have been so much more useful. Even a nice Velcro strap to fold the cord up would have been so much better. Is this InstantPot worth buying? It is in my opinion a solid buy. It has more than one use and is a well built product.
