Flawed but enjoyable
A very good try at making a mysterious sci-fi thriller series, the plot is slightly hard to follow, which meant me watching it 3 times untill i understood itand even now there are grey areas which i dont believe will ever be filled in.The animation is just above average, though at times it can seem extremely poor wherecosts were obviously managed to ensure that later episodes had more of a wow factor at centaincliff hanger battles etc which leaves us with an anime that isnt quite sure if it wants to bewith the OVA's or all the other average series that are churned out each year. The characters are great, and well designed, although they lack enough depth to really become emotionallyinvolved with them.if you want an enjoyable afternoon in, which will keep you entertained get VBS and you wont be dissapointed. It doesnt push any boundries but rather prefers to stay nestled within the industrys comfortzone, action, sci-fi and cleavage.Really only for the collector or avid fan

Reasonable animé but not without flaws
Released in 1997 Virus Buster Serge isn't a bad Shōnen animé, with a special police unit using combat suits and assorted mecha to defend the populace from a devastating virus attack. The Virus is a combined data/organic creation that can meld man and machine in a monstrous cyborg combo and requires a variety of violent countermeasures. As with most good animé the lines between good and bad get blurred by mans self interest. On the down side Virus is showing it's age with overly stylised figures in very camp uniforms, tank tops and baggy trousers drawn with some eye wateringly bright primary colours. Quality wise the animation is OK but hardly cutting edge. The sound track is also a bit frenetic. The bumph on the cover compares it with Neon Genesis Evangelion, this is stretching things a bit as it really isn't that good.

Anime Fan
This is what you would expect of the better japanese cartoon series with technology being both the future of mankind and also the cause of all their problems. An elite group are formed to deal with a virus that infects robots and causes them to mutate into deadly psycho killing machines that nothing can stop, except for the elite team and their newest member Serge. You follow Serge as he learns of the origins of the virus and about himself. If you like Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040 then you should like this.

such a great series.
if you're the type of person who would enjoy such things as my beloved "Blade Runner" then you will love this. it has a very similar theme and little references keep popping up. it comes up with an idea that is not too hard to understand and it creates a whoe new wonder (If you read my review of "Generator Gawl - the perfect collection (another great animé) you'll know about perfection) which has a way of having humour and raw emotion that never cross to ruin the other. the characters are memorable, the music rocks, the action is excellent and the only minor weakness is a few questions not getting answered at the end and a slight overdose of fan-service (Don't ask if you don't know)
