Could these be used as part of a DIY bird toy?

I don't think I would trust that a macaw couldn't crack them so I don't recommend for them but for a smaller bird that doesn't have that much jaw strength, yes. I have an African Gray and would not hesitate to let her play with them. These gems appear to be quite dense and do not break when they fall on concrete floor.

Are the marine/mermaid ones solid plastic or hollow?

I did not actually buy this product but I believe the pieces are solid, hard plastic. I bought the "gems" and they were solid.

Do these have a hole ?

Perfect addition to water table or sensory box

These shells are perfect for our daughter’s sensory box and practicing counting/colors. Great price too. There are some very small shells that I do not give our toddler. Be sure to separate the very small shells out due to choking hazard. I wish they did not include the very small shells.
