Q: The listing shows the dimensions of the box. What are the dimensions of the tape measure itself? I'm looking for compact, for my small hands.

Approximately 2.5x2.5 inches square; 1.5" deep. I am petite (5'2", 100 pounds) and it fits comfortably in my hands, although it did not specifically say "compact" on the packaging. I am left-handing, so I love that the numbering runs in both directions...no more trying to read upside-down and backwards! Also, it has a built-in pencil sharpener and an erasable area on front of tape to write down your measurements. Originally ordered it as a gift for my fiance and I liked his so much, I ordered one for myself. We are planning on ordering more for holiday giving.

Q: What is the stand out/reach on this tape. Other word how far can u extend out without it touching anything before it the tape breaks over?

I would say about 2-3 feet then it just bends. I returned mine for this reason. I recommend looking at a diff brand. Personally I would spend the extra few bucks and get the easy read de Walt tape measure.

FYI, this is the most accurate tape measure I’ve ever used.

Q: How does it hold up with sand and dirt etc etc getting attached to tape and rolling inside?

Does not hold up well. I’m a carpenter and I buy 6 a year usually. One time the tape actually ripped. But mostly it’s the clip breaking off and or the retracting not working.
