Buy the hardcover here and you get the 2-volume book set AND lifetime access to the expert consult ebook through inkling!
This is the Bible of Wilderness Medicine. If you have any interest in wilderness/austere/remote/outdoor medicine, then do yourself a favor and pick this up. I had 6th edition and put off upgrading but I am glad to have done it now because this is well worth the money. When I was looking at this I tried to find information about whether this included access to the inkling ebook as well as the hard copy, so hopefully I can help someone else by answering that question here. For background, if you aren't familiar with inkling they make amazing interactive e-textbooks formatted for iPads, iPhones, online, etc. If you go to the inkling website and purchase the ebook copy it will cost you $188.99 for the entire ebook without a hard copy. I purchased the hardcover book from amazon for $163.49 and received a beautiful 2-volume hardcover set AND a code inside the front cover to claim lifetime access to the Elsevier expert consult ebook version. When you claim the Elsevier code, it brings you back to inkling, where you are given lifetime access to the $188.99 inkling ebook in addition to the hardcover books in front of you.In summary, buy the hardcover and you get the 2-volume book set AND the expert consult ebook through inkling for less than the cost of the ebook if you purchased directly from inkling. Don't buy the e-textbook or you will be wasting your money on a product that you get for free with the hardcopy! I cannot recommend this book highly enough.

Impossible to find topics from index
The search function does not bring up many topic that are listed in the index. The index citations have page numbers, but clicking on the page number does nothing. Furthermore, the Kindle version does not list page numbers, making the index useless. Without a useful index the Kindle version is rather useless as a reference

Continues to be the most complete and resourceful book on Wilderness Med
I had been wanting to buy this book and I finally made it. This last edition has additional chapters than broaden even more the aspects covered by this specialty. Excellent scientific resource! There are other smaller books from different authors, but this one is THE one to get deep into learning.

awesome reference!
Extensive, well written, comprehensive review text with outstanding illustrations and a treasure trove of images (the compendium of snake and reptile photos might be worth the price alone). Highly recommended

The 'bible' of Wilderness Medicine at a great price!
I'd been after a copy of 'Auerbach's' for a while and saw it on Amazon at a very good price. So good in fact that I wasn't sure if the 2 volume set would actually be new. I needn't have worried, it arrived early, in perfect condition, with each volume still wrapped in cellophane and in the original publisher's outer packaging (I've left a separate, very positive seller review). In terms of the books, as expected the content is excellent. My primary interest is in providing field care at altitude and in cold climates and the sections on this are excellent, including useful sections on avalanches and avalanche rescue, accidental hypothermia, and frostbite. This, however, is just scratching the surface of a wide-ranging and detailed medical text that covers just about everything one would need to know to provide medical care in wilderness environments, including a great deal of practical content that reflects Paul Auerbach's first principle of 'first know the wilderness'. I'm looking forward to diving into the contents in more detail over the coming months and will aim to update this review at some point.
